Chapter 47 - Gag-Worthy

"Yours?" the taiyoukai asked. "Then what does that make you? Mine?" He liked the idea quite a lot, to be able to call her his, but he didn't think she meant the same thing by it that he would. He wanted to make her his mate, really and truly his, but there was no way she was ready for such a thing. She'd just told the foolish wolf that he couldn't love her because he didn't know her well enough. Surely she would tell him the same as they were still only beginning to get to know one another. So what, exactly, did she mean then? Time seemed to stand still as he awaited her explanation.

Kagome sighed and rolled her eyes dramatically. "I'd be called your girlfriend. Boyfriend and girlfriend means that two people are seeing each other exclusively. You're not off flirting with other women and I'm not seeing other men. Does that make sense?"

Sesshoumaru had to fight down a sigh of disappointment. It was as he had expected. She merely had another term for courting. He had known, of course, that she wasn't ready for anything truly serious, but that didn't make it sting any less. That little bit of hope being killed off hurt more than he would ever admit. Still, it meant that he was making progress. She would not be seeing any other men. He would not have competition to deal with, unless of course she had other idiot suitors like Kouga running around. Little did he know, she did, on the other side of the well. Thankfully Hojo was safe from the reach of the taiyoukai who would have done anything necessary to run him off.

Realizing that he could no longer sense the annoying wolf, he looked around, scanning the area. Kagome saw what he was doing and noticed who was missing.

"Where did Kouga go, anyway?"

"Aww, he ran off when you two were busy flirting," Inuyasha answered snidely. "It must have disgusted him as much as it does me."

"That's it, Inuyasha," Kagome shot back. "Sit! I don't need your mouth or your interference. Stop being such a jerk about me and Sesshoumaru! She turned back to the taiyoukai with a sigh. "I hope he isn't too upset. I tried to explain it to him nicely a bunch of times but he never listened to me."

"He desired you. I can understand the feeling, but to ignore your refusal of his claim was dishonorable and cowardly. One should never attempt to force a female into a mating she does not want."

Kagome smiled up at the taiyoukai. "You understand the feeling, huh?"

"Of course. I desire you as well."

"So would you have challenged him if it was necessary?"

"In an instant. And he would have lost."

The miko laughed at the taiyoukai's confidence. "You know he has jewel shards in his legs. He might not have been that easy to defeat."

"If the prize is you, I would defeat any opponent by any means necessary."

Though it was muffled by dirt, there was a definite dramatic gagging sound coming from Inuyasha's hole in the ground and Kagome rolled her eyes.

"He's never going to get used to this."
