Chapter 43 - A Fine Meal

The taiyoukai was showing off again, this time his wealth as he treated the group to an extravagant meal at a nearby village. Kagome and the others were thrilled to be eating something other than ramen or meat cooked over an open fire. 

Inuyasha, though, was uncomfortable being surrounded by humans. He always felt as if they were judging him, usually because they were, and this time was no different. He did his best to ignore the rude whispers, but it was slowly making him insane.

Kagome sat between Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha, inspiring the worst whispers. They were saying horrible things about the miko, assuming that she was intimately involved with both the demon and the hanyou by her side.

Sesshoumaru wasn't handling things much better than his brother was. Yes, he desired to be with Kagome romantically, but that in no way would make her a demon's whore. She was an honorable woman and even when they were finally intimate, she would still not be a whore because he had every intention of making an honest woman out of her by making her his mate. He sipped his wine and fought down the desire to slaughter the women waiting on their table. Their only saving grace was that the miko could not hear their cruel words.

The taiyoukai would take care of things and put a stop to the vicious whispering, but not until everyone had eaten their fill. Then he would confront the perpetrators and put the fear of god in them. They truly should have known better that to speak such venomous lies in his presence. Surely it was obvious that these were his companions, and as such they should be respected.

When everyone finished eating, Sesshoumaru rose and approached the owner of the establishment. He would handle this in a way that would leave Kagome none the wiser. She did not need to know what had been going on around her. She would remain blissfully ignorant.
