Chapter 39 - On Stars

*Dust to Dust* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

Kagome laid flat on her back, staring at the night sky, the taiyoukai by her side, though he was looking at her. "You're staring again," she teased. "Look at the stars."

"The stars hold no interest to this Sesshoumaru," the taiyoukai replied. "I would much rather look at you."

A few feet away, the hanyou made a loud gagging sound, making Miroku giggle like a schoolgirl.

"Shut it, Inuyasha," Kagome threatened, "or I'll bring you down out of that tree the hard way." She returned her attention to the taiyoukai. "The stars are amazing. Did you know that you're made of stardust? Everything is. Stars explode and what's left makes up everything around us."

"This Sesshoumaru is not made of stardust," he replied flatly. "I am flesh and blood, as are you."

Kagome sighed and rolled her eyes. "And that flesh and blood is made up of tiny bits that used to be stars. Trust me; I know what I'm talking about."

"That sounds ridiculous," he argued.

"It does sound far-fetched," Sango chimed in from a short distance away.

*Stardust Venus* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

"People in my time have proved it. Did you know there are other planets out there? If you look just past the end of that branch there, you can see Venus."

"Are there humans on these other planets?" Miroku asked.

"No," Kagome said with a sigh, growing irritated that everyone seemed to want to be a part of her conversation with Sesshoumaru. "Earth is the only planet in this solar system that can support life. All the others are too hot, too cold, or completely inhospitable. That doesn't mean that there isn't life out there somewhere else, in another solar system."

"Solar system?" Sango inquired.

"A solar system is a sun and the things that orbit that sun. All the planets circle the sun in their own orbits. Guys, this is nearly impossible to explain to you."

"You did start it," the taiyoukai said teasingly.

*Extended Warp* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

"Getting time alone with you is going to be next to impossible," she complained.

"No, it is not. It is incredibly easy. All you had to do was say that you desired such." At that, the taiyoukai rose to his feet and held out his hand to the miko.

"But it's already dark."

"I can see perfectly in the dark. Come, we will find privacy."

"Ohhhh, privacy," Inuyasha cooed mockingly. "He wants to kiss you. Make sure you don't turn him on again, Kagome, or he's gonna be hunting for cold water to ease the pain."

"Inuyasha," Kagome said sharply. "Sit!"

The hanyou fell from his tree at warp speed, slamming into the ground with a pained groan.

"I'm the only one allowed to tease him, Inuyasha," Kagome hissed. "You'd better remember that."

"Can I tease you?" the hanyou asked, though he instantly regretted it as she said that dreaded word again. Obviously that was a no. How was he supposed to deal with his brother courting his miko if he couldn't find humor in it? The whole thing was already making him insane. Poking fun at the pair was his only outlet since Kagome wouldn't let him kill the taiyoukai. Yes, this was going to be a rough road.

A thought occurred to Inuyasha and he smirked, despite his pain. He couldn't wait until Kouga showed up. That was a show he was eager to witness.
