A/N: monti! I have written you another story! Take it with my soul!

I do not own Inuyasha in any way, shape or form.

Chapter two: Aka-shita

Kagome sighed softly as she sat under a tree. It was raining again. A downpour. Once more she got separated from the others. It wasn’t Inuyasha’s fault this time either. He tried to protect her against the youkai that attacked, he seriously did. But it was Kagome being carless when one of the bird youkai grabbed her and took off with her. Inuyasha tried to keep up, but she saw that he got swamped with other youkai at the same time. In an act of desperation, she grabbed the bird’s legs and shot a shock of purification power. Unfortunately for the Shikon miko she fell from about a hundred feet. If it wasn’t for the lush forest below her, she was sure that she would have been killed. Of course, she had scrapes and burses, but otherwise she was fine.

The girl sighed again as the rain continued to fall from above. Being under the tree she was, she didn’t have to worry about getting too wet. Getting sick on the other hand might be a problem. And with Inuyasha’s nose, Kagome was sure that she was never going to get found. Rain always washed away someone’s scent. Doesn’t help the fact that the bird took off flying. She just hopped that she wouldn’t get eaten in the process.

“You irritating girl! Get back here!” Screeched a voice not too far away from where Kagome sat.

The girl blinked a couple times. She knew that voice. It was a voice that had the issue of digging deep into one’s brain so when their dreaming, it echoed there to remind one that the irritating creature did exist.

“But master Jaken, Sesshomaru-sama said that Rin has to find food for herself.”

Kagome looked around the tree that she was sitting under to see a little girl, Rin if she remembered correctly, and that ugly green toad that she despised more then anything. But why was the two out here in the middle of the thick forest? And where was Sesshomaru? Kagome just shivered at the memory of their last encounter. She was lucky to even live though that one.

“Well hurry up child. We must quickly go back to Sesshomaru-sama.” The toad huffed as he watched the girl look around. He honestly wished that they didn’t have the young child and him and his lord could go back to the way it was. A quiet adventure without the singing of a child.

Rin looked around till she saw berries near where Kagome sat. “Do you think these are poisonous master Jaken?” She asked him.

Jaken gave her a look. “Why are you asking me Rin? I don’t eat that stuff.”

Kagome bit her lip as she watched the little girl looking at the berries. Not able to keep silent anymore, the miko relived where she was. “You shouldn’t eat those. Their actually very poisonous.” Kagome said.

Rin blinked at Kagome before realizing who it was. “Kagome-chan!” Rin happily said.

Kagome smiled at the little girl before glairing at Jaken. “You know those berries aren’t good for her! What do you think that Sesshomaru would say if he found out you got his ward sick? He’d kick your sorry green ass and you know it!”

“You will shut your mouth you filthy human!” Snapped Jaken. The truth was that he knew that she was exactly right. Sesshomaru would have his head if any harm came to the girl.

Kagome locked glares with the retainer, trying to stare him down. Sure, it was immature and stupid, but the girl was in a bad mood and the toad only made it worse. That was till Rin screamed out, breaking both glares.

The miko’s eyes widened at the large cloud as it approached the small group. But from the aura, Kagome knew that it was far from an actual cloud. Slowly a youkai emerged from the black smoke. Its fur was gray and held a smell that smelt like ash. It was enough to singe her nose hair. What stood out the most was it’s large red tongue that hung from its mouth as if it was about to eat something that tasted wonderful.

“It’s an Aka-shita!” Jaken gasped.

Kagome ran over and grabbed Rin right before the Aka-shita could wrap its claw around the small girl. “Run Rin!” Kagome yelled.

Rin shook her head as she found herself unable to stand. “Sesshomaru-sama…” The little girl whimpered.

The raven hair teen cursed, wishing that she had her bow and arrows with her.

The large youkai growled at the fact its small snack was taking from it. Instead he grabbed the miko. “You shall be my dinner instead.” It smirked.

Before Kagome could do anything, the youkai cried out as its arm was sliced off causing the hand and the miko to fall to the ground.

Stunned, the girl looked around to see Sesshomaru descend quickly. As soon as his feet touched the ground, he skidded to a halt, Tokijin in his hand.

“Sesshomaru-sama!” Rin cried out.

Golden eyes looked over at his ward. “Rin, get to safety and take the miko with you.”

Finding strength once more, the small child stood up. “Yes Sesshomaru-sama!” She ran over to Kagome and helped the miko out from under the twitching hand. “Come on Kagome-chan. We can hid over there!”

“Damn you dog!” The Aka-shita yelled. “You will pay with your life for that!”

Sesshomaru’s eyes narrowed as he lunged at the youkai. He would love to see it try and kill him. Nothing could ever beat him.

Kagome couldn’t help but to stare at Sesshomaru as he moved. The grace he showed as he used the tree’s to his advantage, and the way his body moved with every stroke of his sword. She had heard once that sword fighting was like dancing, but this was the first time she had ever seen it like this kind of art.

With a last stroke, Sesshomaru removed the head of the Aka-shita, the creature bursting in black smoke. The taiyoukai placed his sword back into his golden sash and looked over at the miko. “Come Rin.” He said, turning around.

Rin giggled. “Coming Sesshomaru-sama!” She called as she followed afterwards and waved goodbye to the miko.

Finding her voice again, she cried out to the youkai lord. “Thank you for saving me Sesshomaru.”

He stopped and looked over his shoulder at her. “This Sesshomaru did not save you miko. The Aka-shita was threatening my pack. If it was just you, I wouldn’t have wasted the effort.”

Kagome huffed at him. “Regardless, thank you Sesshomaru.” She had to repeat in her mind over and over again that she would not throw a fit in front of him.

Sesshomaru ignored her as he continued on his way, leaving the girl while she heard the cry of Inuyasha in the distance.

TBC… Next week.
