Chapter 6: Trust

Two weeks. Two weeks and the girl was already going nuts. She was finally let out of the hospital under the impression that if she wasn't let out, she was going to kill the doctor until he gave the okay that she was to be let out. It was another week before he was able to even go to school.

Her mother fussed over her more then before. Scared that her little girl was going to go away this time. It took forever for Kagome to convince her mother that she was completely fine and that she wasn't going to die any time soon. But that week at home got her thinking.

Did she imagine it when Sesshomaru's eyes go red? And that strength. She was positive she saw him throw the guy hard enough to dent the metal. Adrenalin or not, something like that was just... inhuman. Then she remembered her dream. The young girl, Rin, called him ‘Lord' Sesshomaru. Now, Kagome knew a bit about names and knew for a fact that her teacher's name meant ‘Killing Perfection.' She also knew that his last name meant ‘Great General'. But this was the twenty first century. Parents gave their children's weird names to be different. It would have been weirder to be called ‘Bob' or something. But this... was different. She had called him ‘Lord'. But why? She was positive that her teacher was no older then twenty plus years of age. There was no way he would be so old that he lived in a time where some little girl would call him lord.

Kagome frowned as she laid on her bed, deep in thought. She remembered when she was a child her grandfather used to tell her stories about demons. He used to tell her how they lived for such a long time and used to rule the lands that they live in now. But the holy wars caused them to disappear, die out even. A small chuckle left her lips as she turned to her side. How funny would it be if her sexy history teacher was a demon? Suddenly, her chuckling stopped.

His eyes went red; markings seemed to appear before her eyes. Strength that she had never seen before. And on top of that, the toxin's in her body. How was it that she could have lived though that? Unless...

Kagome shook her head. It was impossible. There was no humanly way that her teacher was a demon. It was just so... out worldly for it to be true. But... there was the possibility. She needed to know. She had to ask. And she would get the answers that she desired. If she was wrong, Kagome would embarrass herself in front of the very man who saved her life. But if she was right... then what? What would she do then?

She sat up, a determined look on her face. Her grandfather had some old documents dating as far back as the warring states period. She would find her answers there.

"Class is dismissed." Sesshomaru said as he shut the book with a loud ‘thud'. He hid a smirk seeing those who was falling asleep in his class jump at the sound. Oh it was so much fun scaring them sometimes.

He removed the reading glasses off his face and sat in his chair, waiting for everyone to leave. He knew that Kagome would still be the only person left in class. He could feel her piercing gaze the whole time. Honestly, he did nothing wrong this time. He gave her distance and didn't bother her or hit on her excessively like he normally would have. After all, the poor girl did just get out of the hospital only last week.

When the rest of the class was gone, he heard the door shut and arched a silver eyebrow as the sound of the classroom lock clicked.

"Higurashi-san, can I inquire to what you're doing?" He asked her.

Kagome watched him as she walked to the front of his desk. She didn't want anyone walking in on them while they were talking. It was a secret that she would grasp from him. Something that could break what little they had of each other.

"Sesshomaru, I don't want anyone listening in on this." She explained to him. "I just want to know, do you trust me?"

Sesshomaru sat up strait, looking at the young girl, confusion hidden behind his mask. "Why do you ask me this?"

Kagome took a deep breath. "Because I trust you more then anything Sesshomaru. You saved my life and watched over me when you didn't have to. You even visited me in the hospital. And... a little girl told me that you love me."

"What little girl?" Sesshomaru asked her, his eyes narrowing. He told no one. Hinted a whole hell of a lot to her, but never told anyone. Not even some little girl.

Kagome held up her hand. "First off, do you trust me? Trust me enough to tell me everything and not hold back. If I'm wrong, fine, whatever. But if I'm right, you have to tell me the truth. I wont tell anyone about this conversation and you wont tell anyone either."

Sesshomaru watched her for a moment before letting out a sigh and leaning back in his chair. "You have my trust. Now, what little girl?"

Kagome sat on one of the desks, her chocolate eyes never leaving his golden ones. "A little girl by the name of Rin. She stood before me when I was passed out. She wore a checkered kimono and had black hair that was tied to the side. She called you Lord." She got the reaction she wanted. His eyes widened in shock as he stared at her unbelieving that she said such a thing.

"It got me thinking," Said the teen girl as she continued to watch him. "How is it that a history teacher who looks no more then twenty years old get the name lord? Or even such an old name like ‘Sesshomaru Taisho'. The last part of your name ‘Maru' was used a long time ago to show nobility. But it hasn't been used for a very long time. And then your last name ‘Taisho' which meant ‘Great General'. Really, it's more of a title then a last name."

Sesshomaru stayed quiet, listening and watching her as she spoke. He didn't interrupt her, but his eyes told her to continue.

Kagome took another breath. "I decided to look up some old scrolls that my grandfather had in storage. He had the old scrolls that scholars ignored because of how odd they seemed. They spoke of demons and the holy wars. But one scroll in particular spoke of the four cardinal lords. A demon lord for each of the directions. North, south, east, and west. Just like the four Chinese gods except they weren't gods though some saw them almost god like. One in particular caught my eye. The lord of the west. His name was never spoken, but his title was Inu no Taisho. The great dog general." The young girl smirked. "So tell me oh great one, how old are you really?"

The man behind the desk smirked and clapped. "Congratulations Kagome Higurashi, you fond an old, very guarded secret. Yes, Inu no Taisho was my father. As for how old I am, I believe there is a saying that states that it's quite rude to ask someone their age." He let his concealment down, showing markings upon his face. His nails grew to that of claws.

Kagome gulped slightly, her heart beat racing. If he wasn't so stunning before, he was even more so now. "So... you're a demon?" She asked him.

Sesshomaru smirked as he got up. In a blink of an eye, he hands on either side of her body. "Demon, youkai, monanoke, ayakashi, we have many names. I am an inuyoukai my dear Kagome, a secret that I am intrusting you to keep of course."

Kagome gave him a smile. "Come now, would I go spilling the secret of the man who saved my life?"

Sesshomaru pushed off the desk and chuckled. "Maybe."

The girl pouted. "How about I trade you a secret for another one?" She asked him.

He arched an eyebrow. "And that would be?"

"My family comes from the long line of mikos. The very line that was born from Midoriko."

Sesshomaru shared her smirk. "Then I believe we trust each other with those very secrets."

"I believe so Lord Sesshomaru."
