{Ruling the Pack}

Kagome found the one inu she had been looking for sprawled against the couch, staring moodily at the TV. "Takai, can you do me a favor?" she asked.

Takai, one of Sesshoumaru's younger brothers, turned his attention to Kagome. He didn't give her his usual smile.

"What's wrong with you?"

Takai sighed. He shook his head, telling Kagome he didn't want to talk about it. "What can I do for you?"

"I need someone to take our new pack members around. Miroku and Shippo should arrive in a couple of hours."

He climbed to his feet. Of all of the Inu no Taisho brood, Takai had been Kagome's favorite by far. She felt a little bad sometimes ordering him around considering he actually was her elder in both human and demon years.

He could have had his own pack, still could, if he asked his father. Kagome had always wondered why he chose to stay with Sesshoumaru as a beta.

"Can't Chuu do it? I don't think I'm up to playing the guide this time."

Kagome frowned. "I would," she began, "but Chuu is on my permanent shit list. It's bad enough I had to put him in charge of the little ones." She gave Takai the puppy eyes, knowing that he would eventually cave to her wishes. She wasn't disappointed when he gave her a tentative smile of acceptance.

"So now do you want to tell me what's going on?" she asked, motioning him back down in his seat.

Takai looked out the window. "I hear Keiko's been getting pretty cozy with some inu."

Everything seemed to make sense all of a sudden. Takai liked Keiko. That had to be it otherwise he wouldn't be so upset.

She felt bad for Takai. Keiko just saw him as a pup, Sesshoumaru's younger brother. Obviously Takai had a much different feeling for Keiko. "Oh Takai, I didn't know," Kagome said.

Takai sighed. "Of course you didn't. No one knows I've loved her for the longest time. Even when she was Sesshou's alpha bitch I loved her."

Kagome couldn't curb the romantic heart beating inside her. Takai was one of her favorites of the Inu no Taisho sons. His only problem was that that he tended to be a little too quiet. She wanted to help him at least have a chance to put in his claim for Keiko, even if it didn't work out; she wanted him to have a chance.

"How about I help you tell her you love her?"

Takai gave Kagome a look. "No offence, but I don't see her taking the time out to indulge me. She'd just say I'm way too young for her and that would be it. I'd be a made a fool in front of everyone. I have enough pride not to want that."

Kagome shook her head. She didn't plan to do this at a time when others could witness his possible failure. She had an idea of getting them alone to try to talk. It would be good for them.

"No one would see you. I'll make sure of it. Just tell me when you'd like me to get her to come around and I'll set it up for you. If she takes on this new male and you never took the chance to at least try telling her how you feel, you'll regret it. I don't want that for you."

Takai tilted his head slightly to the side, contemplating her words. "You would do this for me?"

She smiled. "Of course I will. We're pack mates. I didn't go through all those behavioral classes for nothing. Packs help one another, it's instinctual."

Takai gave a shy smile, nodding briefly. "I suppose when put that way it makes sense. If you please, I'd rather confront her near my time of rut. I'll be bolder then." Although he didn't say it, it was his hope that she would not refuse him. He wouldn't know what to do if his beast's first choice didn't want him.

Kagome took mental note of his decision, filing it away so that she could inform Sesshoumaru later should the need for action be required by the alpha. "If you show our new members around I'll make sure you get your meeting," Kagome said. Takai finally gifted her with the smile she'd been waiting for.

Sesshoumaru carefully sifted through the piles of clothing littering his bed. The pups kept getting large seemingly by the day. Every time he turned around someone needed a new outfit and as the alpha elect, he refused to have his pups wear hand me downs.

He separated the clothing by piles. Under normal circumstances this would have been Kagome's job, but Kaishou and Kiyoshi, his youngest, were behaving worse than ever since the arrival of the kit Shippo. Kagome had a very rough time getting them all to accept one another.

It was that and he was feeling agitated. Sorting through clothing just so happened to keep his mind occupied with the senseless activity. His skin felt tight. His teeth ached.

"Doing a bitch's work now dear brother," Chuu taunted from the door way of the bedroom. Sesshoumaru ignored his brother, as unimportant. "Oh come on Sess. Where's the fun in teasing you if you ignore me."

"It's almost rut season," Sesshoumaru said quietly. "You should not antagonize a male during this time Chuu." For this very reason Sesshoumaru was relegated to his home. None of the demon males were allowed in close proximity during the rut season.

In the old days the Inu no Taisho used to hold grand tournaments to open the season. After a time when the humans began to spread in numbers it was considered in the best interest of the greater pack to ban the practice.

Sesshoumaru did miss those days and hoped to one day convince his father to bring back the tournament in a safer setting. All alpha males needed an extra outlet for the frustrations before the rut season.

"Boy, thank goodness I'm still too young for the rut. You grown males get too crazy."

Faster than Chuu could blink, he was thrown out of the room with the door slammed in his face. He peered up into the blinking eyes of Sesshoumaru's ward and his offspring Kaishou.

Further in the corner, Kagome stood cradling a bawling Kiyoshi in her arms, while the new pack member Shippo clung to her shoulder. "You should have known better Chuu," Kagome said with a sigh.

Chuu climbed to his feet, dusting off his pants with a shrug. "I wouldn't be a little brother if I didn't antagonize my brothers."

Speaking of brothers, Chuu notice Takai curled up on the couch shivering. "What the hell is wrong with Takai?" he asked.

"What's hell mean?" the little ones asked. Kagome growled out a comment about stupid little worms.

"It's close to rut season. What do you think is wrong with him?" Chuu gave a shrug. It didn't really concern him all that much. Kagome sighed. She didn't know why she even bothered trying to get through to Chuu.

She left the main room, putting all the pups down for a nap in their shared bedding. They all fought shortly for space until Kagome interfered. She settled Kiyoshi in the middle, where he'd be protected on all sides. Kaishou settled down next to his brother with Rin on the other side of Kiyoshi. Shippo was relegated to Rin's side. Of the pups, she was the only one willing to like him. Once assured that, for the moment at least, there was peace between the pups and the new pack member; she quietly closed the door before heading toward Sesshoumaru's rooms.

Sesshoumaru stood, shivering when she entered. He'd stripped from his clothing as it would have bothered his sensitized skin. Kagome moved to his back rubbing soothing circles on his skin.

This was her first rut with Sesshoumaru. She had experience watching some of the males deal with the rut seasons, but she'd never participated. Inuyasha had always disappeared and she now wondered if it was because he was sleeping with Sango even then. She had supposedly been visiting her younger brother during that time.

Kagome set the thought aside. It did no good thinking about that pack now. "Are you going to be okay," she asked Sesshoumaru.

He arched his back into her touch. "I've survived worse." He groaned as Kagome shifted her rubbing to his stomach. She could soothe him with a quick romp if they were both quiet enough not to wake the little ones.

The door bell cut across any further idea. Sesshoumaru snarled, moving directly into fight mode. Kagome rushed to see who could be bothering them at this time. As she passed the living room it took only a momentary glance to notice Keiko hovering over Takai's prone form. Chuu was no where to be seen.

Before she had a chance to touch the intercom system, Sesshoumaru's hand gripped her own, holding her away. She turned her head to notice him glancing out the window.

She moved closer to his side, also looking. There stood a disheveled Sango, wringing her hands anxiously as she only paid attention to the door keeping her from entering.

Kagome felt anger boiling underneath her skin at first. How dare that bitch come ringing her door bell as if she had done nothing wrong? But no, she reminded herself, she was an alpha female to the Alpha Elect. It was her job to help make sure things ran smoothly and Inuyasha's pack had fallen so far behind in their duties that it bordered on ridiculous.

Kagome patted Sesshoumaru's arm, noticing that he still hadn't put on any clothing. "It's okay," she told him. I have to meet with that pack anyway. There is paperwork to look over."

Sesshoumaru looked as if he didn't want to release her, but he did finally, returning to his room to pace.

Kagome took a deep breath to calm her nerves. It could really get ugly if she weren't careful to keep her anger in check. "Do you want me to deal with her," Keiko asked over Takai's whimpering.

Kagome gave Keiko a gentle smile, noting how protective the female was toward the younger male. Kagome was not about to ruin Takai's chances of getting attention from his woman if she could help it.

"I think I've got it. You'll be the first I call should I need help." Bothering the males this close to a rut was not a good idea. Sesshoumaru especially, was liable to slaughter Sango for bothering his bitch.

Keiko turned back to Takai, rubbing soothing circles against his exposed skin. Takai kept a tight grip against her waist holding her close to him, just in case she thought about leaving him.

Kagome pressed the button to speak into the intercom. "State your business at the house of the Alpha Elect."

Outside Sango jumped at the familiar voice. "Kagome?" she asked uncertainly. She didn't get a response. "I am Sango, mate to the alpha Inuyasha. I come in answer to a letter received at the compound from the house of the Inu no Taisho. I'm supposed to schedule a financial meeting with the alpha female."

Kagome felt a smile touch her lips. Leave it to Toga to send a letter demanding Inuyasha's group do their work. If it were up to Kagome, she would have just allowed the pack to flounder around continuously.

Without saying a word, she pressed the buzzer unlocking the door. Sango cautiously pushed open the doors, glancing around the large home. When she turned to confront who she thought was the alpha female, she instead came face to face with an inu teenager.

"The Alpha bitch says to meet her in the office." Chuu glanced Inuyasha's female up and down, clearly not impressed. She didn't even have the curves of a real woman.

Chuu sighed. He always knew the hanyou was daft.

{Finding the Alpha Female}

Kagome spread all the appointment books on the desk in Sesshoumaru's office. She dreaded having to face Sango again after more than nine months of absence, plus with an agitated male on her hand, she didn't need the added stress.

But she knew it was her duty to handle appointments for Sesshoumaru. She knew she was bound to see Inuyasha and Sango again one day. The Greater Pack wasn't all that big.

Chuu flung the door open without bothering to knock. Kagome bit back her sigh. "I brought her like you said," Chuu spoke, pushing a sputtering Sango into the room, causing her to fall to the ground in a heap. "You owe me big time Kagome and just so you know I don't take checks or money orders."

Chuu began to cackle as he left the two fuming women in the room. Kagome massaged her temples. She wasn't sure if she wanted Chuu watching over the little ones during the rut season. He was more trouble than he was worth.

Unfortunately, Takai was also a grown male and would be in his rut. She would have to consider having Miroku keep an eye on all of the little ones, Chuu included. And that would most likely bring other problems she did not want to think of.

Sango climbed to her feet staring in shock at Kagome. Kagome, for her part, kept her eyes focused on the paperwork before her. She couldn't make herself look at Sango right now.

"Please have a seat," Kagome said.

"Kagome, I didn't know -"

Kagome waved her hand, cutting Sango's words off. Part of her feared Sango would try to make a bull shit comment regarding the Inuyasha situation. Kagome didn't want to hear it.

With the anger came to courage to look Sango dead in the eyes. She was the alpha female to the Alpha Elect. Kagome couldn't bow down to someone who was considered beneath her. She refused to. "You are here to work out the problems regarding your pack. Anything personal is inappropriate. This is business."

Sango said nothing more. Kagome revealed the long list of missing paperwork from Inuyasha's pack, along with missing meeting reports. When she'd spoken to the Supreme Alpha Female, Sesshoumaru's mother had given Kagome leave to discipline Sango on her current actions.

"Being an alpha female is more than sitting around looking pretty or screwing your alpha at every opportunity. It is ensuring that the pack's everyday life continues to run smoothly. So far, your pack has performed way under par.

"Every quarter packs are required to have a meeting with the Alpha Elect to discuss finances. For the past nine months your pack as failed to reconcile purchases. Your alpha has yet to make a meeting nor has there been any other representative from Inuyasha's pack. If this continues, we will be forced to take disciplinary actions. Sesshoumaru and the Inu no Taisho have been as patient as they are going to be. Please be timely with your duties in the future."

Kagome passed all the paperwork over, complete with Sesshoumaru's free time for the financial meeting. It was now up to Sango to figure it all out. If she couldn't then it wasn't something for Kagome to deal with.

Sango collected all the paperwork, too shocked to say much else. She ran from the room, needing to get back to her mate's protection, where she was the one in charge and all other females listened to her.

"She's where?" Inuyasha demanded.

Sango returned to her mate in tears from Kagome's behavior toward her. She hadn't thought that her friend would be so cruel, or that she would really abandon her former pack.

"She is now the alpha female for Sesshoumaru," Sango sniffled. The rest of the pack surrounded their alphas, various forms of disbelief evident, all except for Naraku who smirked.

"What did you two expect going behind her back to have an affair? I'm just surprised it took her so long to figure you two out," Naraku said, pulling his mate closer to his side.

Honestly, Naraku could give a rat's ass about Inuyasha and his pack, but Kikyou still had somewhat of a soft spot for the hanyou which is the only reason they stayed. With Kagome gone, things had steadily gone down hill.

It took only hours after the note stating Kagome's intent to leave the pack for the others to figure out that things would never be the same. It wasn't that anyone really disliked Sango. She just wasn't efficient like Kagome. Sango preferred wasting time fawning over Inuyasha than actually doing the paperwork Kagome had done.

More than once Kikyou had admitted to her mate her awe at all Kagome accomplished with an alpha like Inuyasha mostly in the way. It had been like Kagome was both the alpha and the alpha female. Inuyasha had been pointless.

"Just shut it Naraku," Inuyasha snarled. Naraku smirked, pulling his mate from the room. Let all the other losers try to make Sango feel better. It was time to convince Kikyou to leave the greater inu pack for something a little less canine.

Inuyasha turned his attention to the others, growling at them to leave. He was angry that the stupid bitch Kagome dared to make his Sango cry. He had a mind to rip her to shreds for her disrespect.

"I'll be back Sango, he said. "I'm going to figure out what's going on."

The banging at the door drove Sesshoumaru mad. Burning red eyes peered out from the darkness of the room, shifting toward the door. Kagome shifted against him, drawing his attention once more.

He settled her quietly against his pillow. He had a feeling he knew who was at the door and he did not want Kagome facing his brother when there was no need.

He exited his bedroom seeing his younger brother Takai curled up around Keiko on the sofa. She turned slightly from the TV. A slight smile graced her features at Sesshoumaru's beast staring out from her friend's stoic face.

"I know this looks bad when I'm supposed to be seeing another, but what can I say," she said with a shrug. It was totally obvious that Takai had a thing for her. It'd be wrong of her to ignore his need during this time, not when she was still part of the pack.

Sesshoumaru said nothing as the banging at the started up once more. Sesshoumaru growled. Keiko sniffed lightly. They both knew who it was.

He pressed the button for the intercom system. "Come back tomorrow half breed."

"Give me back Kagome. She's part of my pack you asshole."

Sesshoumaru sighed slightly. What was the point? "She gave up her right to your pack and is now mine. If you want to complain then you need to take it up with the Supreme Alpha."

Sesshoumaru didn't bother to listen for his brother's response. He waited, the beast's eyes focused on the door awaiting Inuyasha's next move.

Most of him was hoping Inuyasha continued to fight. The more Inuyasha fought the more likely Sesshoumaru could get away with wiping the floor with his half brother without the usual repercussions of his father's speeches.

"Damn, that half brother of ours is annoying," Chuu said entering the room from where he shared quarters with all the little ones. I don't see how you guys treat me like I'm the problem child."

Takai sighed from his position on the couch. "Chuu you will always be a pain in the ass.

"Kiss my ass retard," Chuu responded. It was only Keiko's arms holding tightly to Takai that kept the other male from his brother's throat. She petted his hair back, slightly brushing her claws against his scalp.

With Takai distracted, Sesshoumaru grabbed Chuu by the scruff of the neck and pulled him into his bedroom, shutting the door on his younger brother's growls.

"I'm going to bed," Sesshoumaru growled lowly to the other two still awake. Keiko nodded absently, not that Sesshoumaru even cared enough to pay attention. He had his bitch to return to.

"So now that we're alone again I want to know something," Keiko said to Takai. The male sighed deeply from his position between her breasts.

"I don't want to talk Keiko. I just want to hold you."

Keiko returned her attention to the television. She wasn't sure what to think about Takai's feelings for her. She would have never suspected it before this moment. He was young, much too young for her, but he was kind of cute.

She bit back a sigh. She was going to be in some real trouble if she weren't careful. Takai was a son of the Inu no Taisho. It'd be suicide on her part to humiliate and insult him.

"We won't talk about it then. But eventually we will have to have a talk." She wasn't surprised when Takai said nothing in reply.

Sesshoumaru was ready early the next morning after a thorough rutting of Kagome. He hadn't wanted to think about the possibility of having more pups this year with his current too still so young, but as his father set the idea in his mind, he couldn't stop thinking about it.

Kagome brushed her wet waves into some semblance of order. When Sesshoumaru told her about Inuyasha's uninvited visit, something she had been expecting after the Sango fiasco, she'd decided to stand by her alpha.

She stepped into the main room where most of the pack gathered. The pups, including Shippo played video games in their corner of the room. Takai and Keiko sat together on the couch, while she tried to keep Takai from killing Chuu.

She looked around spotting Miroku in one of the armchairs reading a story to a disinterested Kiyoshi, all the while keeping the pup from eating the book. She smiled at the flustered monk.

Sesshoumaru sat in the armchair facing the front door. Kagome plopped down in his lap, hoping to help him keep some of the calmness she'd given him earlier this morning. Inuyasha was bound to come back and if Sesshoumaru were too angry, it was very possible that more than just simple bloodshed would occur.

She gave a peck to his lips, distracting him from the door. "You can't kill Inuyasha without angering your father, even if he does deserve it."

Sesshoumaru grunted. "I'm not going to kill the half breed. I'm going to break all the bones in his body and then I'm going to slice his stomach open and drag him by the entrails all about the compound. Rin needs a new jump rope."

Kagome sighed. She wasn't going to say anything. Sesshoumaru was going to do what he wanted, how he wanted. She didn't have the power to stop him.

"Lord Sesshoumaru," Rin said from her corner, "I don't think that rope will work?"

Every demon in the room began to chuckle, confusing all the humans. Kagome leaned further into Sesshoumaru's strong body, lifting an eye brow in imitation of him. "Care to share with the rest of the class."

"It's an insult," Chuu said. "Not even a human finds him useful." Kagome shook her head in exasperation.

"You demons amaze me."

"I'd like to think that I entice you," Sesshoumaru rumbled as he pulled Kagome into a scorching kiss that left her breathless.

"Oh, gross. Get a room," Chuu muttered.

Sesshoumaru glared at his brother. "I have a room." He waved his hand to take in the entire house. "This whole house if my room. You are welcome to join Inuyasha's pack if you don't like it."

Takai laughed at Chuu's expense. "I'm sure you two would get along famously."

"Shut it Takai," Chuu said in retaliation to one that was not his alpha. Takai leaned over Keiko to smack his younger brother in the back of his head. The punishment doled out to his liking, he returned to nuzzling against Keiko.

{Confronting the Alpha Female}

Inuyasha paced back and forth. Today would be the day that he'd get Kagome back. He figured she had to be bored as hell living with Sesshoumaru. Sesshoumaru had an icicle stuck up his ass so far he shit crushed ice.

He laughed at his own joke. Behind him on their bed Sango sat watching him. From time to time she still stifled her tears at the treatment she'd been given by Kagome.

It was as if Sango were beneath her notice now. Sango felt the tears begin to flow once more. This was terrible. Miroku had tried to warn her when he found her cheating on him with Inuyasha in the beginning. "Kagome isn't bound to take it the same way I am," he had said. He just hadn't spoken to her, or even looked her way when she was around. Kagome had left all together.

But now he was gone too. Everyone in the pack blamed her for the way things were going. If it weren't for her, Kagome wouldn't have left and the pack would have been stable.

No, she said silently to herself. It wasn't her fault that Kagome was being a selfish, vindictive bitch. Sango, at least was a mate while Kagome was just a bitch that could be replaced. Inuyasha had followed his instincts to the strongest female in the pack and it wasn't Kagome.

"We have to get her back," she said to her mate. "She belongs in our pack."

Inuyasha snarled. "Your damn right. It's her job to make sure all our paperwork gets done. Stupid bitch, anyone could do that job better than her." They both conveniently forgot that Sango had failed miserably at managing the pack's finances.

"Let's go put in a complaint with the Supreme Alpha. He'll have to listen, even if it's close to mating season." Sango blushed at Inuyasha's leer.

"Come back to bed Inuyasha," she said with a pretty pout. "I'm all lonely without you."

"Feh," Inuyasha said, but he came anyway.

Chuu opened the door to allow his father entry. "What's up pops?" he said with a big grin on his face. "How's mom?"

The Inu no Taisho sighed deeply. "Where is Sesshoumaru? I must speak with him."

Chuu pointed toward the bedroom where Kagome was trying to keep him from having a fit. "Inutrasha came by last night hollering about Kagome being his. You really need to look into getting anger management classes for your eldest."

Toga bared his fangs at his son. "Go visit your mother." Chuu groaned unhappily. Man how he hated having to be punished by visiting mother. She always embarrassed him in front of the ladies.

"Sesshoumaru," the Inu no Taisho said. His grand pups came tearing out of the bedroom at the sound of their grandfather's voice. Rin crashed into his legs while Kaishou pulled his baby brother on a blanket toward their grandfather faster than Miroku could get to them.

Toga hugged the little ones. Sesshoumaru's door opened as Kagome stepped through. "Taisho-sama," she said with a bow.

The Inu no Taisho laughed. "My dear, you as one of the family. There is no need for formality." He set aside the pups so he could hug the one that would soon bare him more grand pups. "Where is my eldest?"

Kagome sighed. "He's in the shower trying to work some of the pre rut tension from his body." She led the Taisho to the couch, making sure to watch where she moved with all the pups jumping about.

Rin raced to get a glass of juice for her grandfather before Kagome had a chance to ask if he required refreshment. Kaishou was busy explaining about their new member Shippo and his feelings on the situation when the little kit scurried out of the room and into Kagome's arms.

The Inu no Taisho smiled kindly at the fox demon, encouraging him to join the others. They were all slowly finding a way of living together without constant fighting on the part of the pups.

Sesshoumaru entered from his shower, his long silver hair plastered against his bare back. "Father," he said, fighting the instincts to challenge another male in his home.

The Inu no Taisho pointed toward Sesshoumaru's office. "You know I would not have come by if I did not feel it important, but we must speak." Both turned to apologize for not including Kagome in the discussion

Kagome waved off the males' excuses as unnecessary. She knew her role and understood that Sesshoumaru would tell her if it were important enough for her to know later.

She turned to the pups all on the couch watching the interaction of the adults avidly. "So, how about we all go get some ice cream with uncle Miroku?" The pups all gave a great cheer.

In the office Sesshoumaru sat behind his desk watching his father carefully not look in his direction. "Inuyasha has demanded the return of Kagome to his pack, claiming she hadn't had his permission to request a transfer."

Sesshoumaru's beast growled in anger. His eyes began to tint red as the beast took over. "That whelp doesn't need to give permission. He disgraced his alpha female by taking another to bed."

"Peace, my son. I give you fair warning simply because you must make a decision. As the Taisho my protection can only go so far without breaking my own rules. Should Inuyasha persist in his claim I will forced to bring it to council."

"She's not leaving," Sesshoumaru said through gritted teeth.

"Then mate her," the Inu no Taisho said with finality. "A claiming during the rut is more acceptable than waiting. It'll prove your beast is involved in the union. A claim will negate everything else."

Sesshoumaru admitted that his beast had thought about it frequently. They wanted to keep her. Still, what would she think about it? If she mated him, she'd have no chance of ever going anywhere else. She'd be tied to him for the rest of their lives.

"I'll discuss it with her," Sesshoumaru said. If she said yes then nothing in this world would stop him from taking her. And if she said no, then he'd damn well make sure she eventually said yes.

It was while Kagome was out with the pups that disaster struck. Miroku touched her elbow in reverence, just like they were taught, to draw her attention. She turned toward him, a slight frown marring her face as she'd been in the middle of deciding what sort of ice cream she desired.

"Trouble's coming," he muttered.

She leaned back slightly, using Kaishou and Kiyoshi's double stroller as a prop to balance herself. Just stepping through the door were the two people she hadn't wanted to see at all.

"I don't believe this," she muttered. Sango noticed her first. Kagome watched as Sango elbowed her mate Inuyasha. When he turned his golden eyes, eyes so different from the citrine of his half brothers, his soft expression turned into a glare.

Inuyasha couldn't believe it when his eyes took in the form of Kagome, Miroku, and Shippo all standing together with Sesshoumaru's pups as if they had been doing it all their lives.

His eyes narrowed as he marched toward the bitch that dared leave his pack without their paper pusher. "You have some nerve," he began, not caring that everyone in the small shop could hear his raised voice. "I bring you into the pack and you abandon me all the while treating my mate with complete disrespect? I ought to beat you right where you stand."

Kagome felt her own eyes narrow as she heard Inuyasha's words. The pups began to growl at the interloper stopping them from having their ice cream. She spared one glance for Sango before she turned her eyes on her former alpha.

Whatever tender emotions she might have felt for him had just been killed. How dare he speak to her that way? "Hit me if you dare, but you better make sure you can take the wrath of an angry Alpha Elect and the Supreme Alpha. How dare you speak to me as if I were some piece of property?"

Her powers flared, causing Inuyasha to jump back in shock. To the pups it was a soothing wave, meant to calm them. Kiyoshi fell to sleep instantly, while his brother and Shippo ceased their snarls.

"I wasn't the one who led you on. I was loyal to you. When things went wrong it was me who took care of it. You knew that I would leave if you didn't at least pretend you were going to mate me. Without me to take care of things you knew the pack would fail, so you had to keep me around. You cared nothing for me, only what I could do for you. You should be thanking me," she continued laying into Inuyasha. Your father wanted to disband your pack when he learned how you treated me. But I did not allow it."

Sango jumped in to defend her mate. "That's not true Kagome. We love you. You were my friend."

Kagome felt tears prick her eyes but she did not allow them to fall. "You have a real fucked up way of showing you care." She turned toward the cashier, placing all the orders. Once she paid she stepped to the side.

Miroku kept close watch on his former alpha's actions. While Kagome had caused a distraction, he had made a call to Takai informing him of the disturbance.

The door slammed open as Sesshoumaru strode in, the sun highlighting him in all his glory. Kagome turned toward her alpha, lifting her head for the kiss she knew was coming.

Faintly, she heard Inuyasha growling in anger at the display. Sesshoumaru pulled away from her with a smirk on his face. "Is this hanyou scum bothering you?" he demanded.

Kagome wrapped her arms about his waist, taking comfort in his soothing embrace. Her alpha was here now to take care of her. "I've taken care of it my lord," she murmured.

Kagome didn't miss the way Sango eyed Sesshoumaru with something akin to desire swimming in her eyes.

She wanted to laugh. Sango cared nothing for Kagome or her feelings. It was a sad realization that Kagome came to, but it helped her kill that last bit of tenderness that insisted on lingering when it came to the two that betrayed her the most.

Inuyasha was in a fury at the way his bastard half brother held Kagome. It had taken Inuyasha years to get into Kagome's pants the first time when he'd first started his pack and she hadn't treated him with this coziness she afforded his brother.

Sango ran after her mate, finding that it was probably better that she not stay alone with the angry Alpha Elect. Once out of his sight, Sesshoumaru turned to the scared store manager. "The hanyou will pay for the damages."

Without another word he collected his pack members and rushed them out the door. He had many things to discuss with Kagome.

Heat clenched him tightly as the beginning of the Seasonal rut began. Sesshoumaru's back arched as he hissed in pain.

When she reached the bed she lowered herself level with his head. 'Be submissive,' she reminded herself. 'Prove you accept him as your male.' She leaned forward to nuzzle her cheek along his.

Sesshoumaru didn't move a single muscle. She pressed her lips against his markings, showing her affection for him. Once she had completed that task she lowered the rest of the way to her knees, eyes still lowered.

She felt his eyes watching her every move. On her knees she shifted her head, baring her neck in a sign of true submission. His teeth clamped firmly to the bit of skin his beast had been eager to feel between his fangs with every time they rutted.

In a show of control he crawled from the bed to the floor, lowering her at the same time without breaking the skin. Kagome was amazed he achieved it, having feared some sort of mishap.

She forgot everything else as she felt the heat from his body. This would be the one time he wouldn't be in the right mind to prepare her body for his invasion. Fortunately for him, all she needed was him close to her to be ready.

Kagome did as she was told, ushering the little ones in their room with Miroku's help. Chuu tried to make himself shrink as little possible to avoid being seen by his brother. He should have known that Sesshoumaru was as all knowing just like their father.

"Chuu," he said, pointing toward the door to make his point clear. Chuu hung his head as he was forced to go with all the babies. He always missed the good stuff even though he was older than Inuyasha.

When the rest of his pack members were out of the room, Sesshoumaru turned to his brother with a feral grin. Takai, perhaps having an understanding of his brother's mind, guided his mate from the room.

Inuyasha stood, his arms crossed over his chest as he demanded his way in the situation. He hadn't figured out yet that things were very different from how he perceived it.

"Kagome is part of my pack. She didn't have permission to put in a request to leave."

"That would work half breed, if you hadn't dishonored your alpha female by taking another as mate. Kagome is mine so your claim is now void. Get over it."

Inuyasha brandished his letter like a shield. "I got support from all the other alphas in the council. This says she belongs to me." Inuyasha smirked thinking that he'd won the argument, but Sesshoumaru's more intimidating smirk paused his pre celebration.

"Actually, it doesn't matter what anyone else says. Kagome belongs to me and since she is my mate that means that anything anyone else has to say does not matter as it happened during the seasonal rut. You lose."

Before Inuyasha could say another word, he was tossed out the door by his brother, the Alpha Elect. The door was slammed in his face.

His beast appeased, Sesshoumaru went to check on the pups and Kagome. He had one upped the half demon and it felt good. If Inuyasha wanted to fight the mating then Sesshoumaru would be more than happy to give him what he wanted. He listened to the banging on the door for a moment.

"Papa," Kaishou said. Sesshoumaru glanced at his pup then smiled. It just wouldn't happen today.
