Chapter 10 - Brothers

*Hated Guy of Sinfulness* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

Inuyasha looked at the screen of his cell phone when a ringtone he hadn't heard in ages sounded. He growled at the phone before answering. "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't hang up on your right now!"

"Because I need your help," Sesshoumaru replied.

"Not a good reason!"

"Because it will also help Kagome," the taiyoukai continued.

"What do you give a damn about Kagome? She could be dead right now, and you wouldn't care."

Sesshoumaru sighed. "That is not true and somewhere inside you, you know it."

"Then why haven't you called to check on her?"

"I have. Inuyasha, I call father every other day checking on her condition, and I have, without fail, since the incident."

*Fabricated Truth* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

"Liar!" Inuyasha hissed. "Father said he hasn't heard from you in months!"

"He is lying to you, though, I do not know why. Tell me, Inuyasha, how is she?"

"She's fucking pissed, that's how she is! Really, you're out there fucking anything that moves. And Kagura? After everything we went through trying to get that crazy bitch out of your life, you go and fuck Kagura?!"

"How do you know that?" Sesshoumaru asked in surprise.

"Social media, brother," Inuyasha said darkly.

"I haven't posted anything."

"You don't have to. Your sluts are posting pictures of you with them and tagging you, and they're writing on your wall. The best part is that Kagome can see all of it. She spends hours looking at your feed, seeing everything you've been doing, and I swear, she's ready to kill you."

*Ophelia* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

"So, she is awake?" The taiyoukai wasn't surprised that his father had lied to him, not after everything his mother had told him. He would never look at the old dog with the same level of respect again. He was risking Kagome's life, and his son's happiness, all to save face in the demon community. It was despicable.

"She's been awake for over a month. You'd know that if you listened to my voicemails."

"I stopped listening after the first twenty that were simply you ranting about how the whole situation was my fault. I was not the one who bound her powers. Tell me, how is she?"

"Besides pissed? She's fucking scary, man. It's like she's got multiple personalities. One minute she's the nice, sweet Kagome and then she flips her shit, and she's this angry, hateful bitch. She called me a half-breed the other day."

Sesshoumaru's eyes widened in shock. Kagome despised that term. She would never use it to describe her best friend. The hanyou's description of the love of his life was spot on with what his mother had explained, and he knew now that she was right. He was the only one who could save her.

"I know what is happening to her."

"You do?" Inuyasha asked, hope in his tone.

*Unhallowed* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

"Think of her miko powers as my beast. I keep him under control through mental locks and chains that I spent years learning to erect and maintain. If he were free, he and I would fight for control, appearing as if there were two minds in one body. Her miko powers are a separate entity in her mind, and she has no idea how to control them. She has literally been torn in half, each side fighting to control her body. She needs to be pulled back together. She needs to be able to control her powers, but it is too late for her to simply learn. They are so strong, anyway, that she would never be able to fully control them without an outside source of power."

"And what is that source of power?" Inuyasha asked, immensely curious how his brother knew all of this.

"I am, or rather, my blood is."

"How do you know all this, man? You didn't even know she was awake."

"I went to see Mother."

"Your mother?" Inuyasha asked in surprise. Sesshoumaru rarely ever saw the woman that gave him life because of their father's orders.

"Yes. The best part is that Father knows all of this and is withholding the information that can save her life, all to save face. He values his pride over her very life." Sesshoumaru went on, explaining everything his mother had told him about what he and the miko were, and finally, Inuyasha agreed to help him. As soon as Kagome could leave the shrine grounds, he would find a way to get her where she needed to be. He only hoped Kaede and her family were successful in their efforts soon. The longer it took, the more Sesshoumaru would suffer, and the greater the risk that their plan would fail.

- *Desire for the Deep Ocean* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

Sesshoumaru lay alone in his bed, the bed Kagome had shared with him just before the incident, for the first time in months. He no longer feared going home and having to deal with Inuyasha. Now that the brothers were on the same page, he could be there without worrying about fighting with the hanyou. He had plenty else to worry about, though.

His mother already had the place he needed, a room fully stocked with every torture device ever created, something which kind of creeped him out. She had known since he was very young what would eventually happen to him, and she never said a word. His father had known as well, which was why his parents separated in the first place. She told him so much, explained so many things. His life made a little more sense now.

The guilt was overwhelming. He basically cheated on Kagome dozens of times. He went out of his way to try to forget her, even when he knew deep inside that it was impossible. If he weren’t a demon, he would probably need a liver transplant right now with as much as he had drunk. He had to drink because he couldn't have done it sober. He couldn't have slept with other women, knowing, or at least thinking, that Kagome was still in a coma because of their time together. The alcohol had kept him numb, but now he was completely sober and drowning in guilt. He ached to see her deep blue eyes once again, smiling at him.

The worst part was knowing that she knew. She knew he betrayed her over and over. Of course that anger would serve her well once their plan was underway, but that didn't make it easier. He loved her, and the knowledge that he hurt her was torture. His only saving grace was that he would be made to pay for his actions. She would see to that. When the two of them walked out of that room, he would be absolved of his sins, and she would be whole again and in complete control of herself.

*Wasteland Nostalgia* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

The first thing he did when setting foot in the house he shared with his brother and Kagome was visit her room. The scent of their activities had long ago faded away, but when he lay on her bed, he could still smell her on the sheets. Her pillow now rested beside him in his bed, and he clung to it like a lifeline. He missed her more than he could ever explain, and he prayed she could leave the shrine soon. The sooner they got started, the sooner she would be in his arms, if she could forgive him that was.

Yes, she would need his blood for the rest of her life, tying them together, but that didn't mean that they had to be in a relationship like the one he desired. She might never be able to forgive his actions, not even after all he would go through for her. His fate was still unwritten, his destiny up in the air. Would she be his in the end? He didn't know.
