*Lost Heart* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

"I'm not sure I can do this," Kagome said hesitantly as the couple stood just outside the front door to the miko's family home. She was still heartbroken over the terrible things her grandfather had said the last time they were there, and she wasn't sure she could handle it if he did so again. She loved him, but she also loved Sesshoumaru, and if she was forced to choose, she would pick the man she loved over an old bigot, grandfather or not.

"Everything will be fine," Sesshoumaru assured her. "And if it is not, then we can leave, just as you said." He, too, was uncomfortable returning, but Kagome had promised her mother they would come, and so they were there. He did his best to hide his discomfort, because his miko was under enough stress.

With a sigh, Kagome opened the door and stepped inside. "We're here!" Her mother rushed to greet her daughter. "Mama!" the miko exclaimed, hugging the older woman. They headed further into the house, entering the living room. "Souta," she continued when she spotted her sibling sitting on the couch, shooting her little brother a smile. "Grandfather," she said coldly to the old man sitting in an armchair.

*From Way Before* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

The old man rose and nodded at his granddaughter before looking over the taiyoukai. "So, you've finally decided to be a man and be honest with her, I see."

"Wait, you knew?" Kagome asked in shock.

"Of course, I knew he was hiding something, Kagome. I may be old, but with age comes knowledge and experience. Why else would I not like the boy?"

"Wait, what?"

"So long as he was hiding his true appearance from you, he clearly did not have honorable intentions."

"You thought he was using me? But why did you call me a whore?"

Gramps ran his hand over his mostly bald head with a sigh. "I am sorry about that, Kagome. I was having a terrible day and was in a lot of pain. You must understand, when I grew up, things were different. I try very hard to accept the new ways, including your choice to date a demon, but sometimes the old ways of thinking come back. It's hard for an old man to learn new tricks."

*Sleep Now Oh Sadness* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

"So, you did mean it, about the demon kids at the orphanage?"

"I did at the moment, but I realize that what I said was wrong. I promise you I will do my best to never say anything like that again."

"Okay," Kagome said slowly, hesitant to forgive such hateful words. "So, you're okay with my relationship with Sesshoumaru?" she asked.

"Now that he's no longer hiding his true self from you, and he makes you happy, then I am happy for you."

The miko turned to the taiyoukai at her side and tugged playfully at his tail that hung over his shoulder. "I love you," she murmured. "He does, Grandpa," she said to the old man. "More than anything in the world."

"Well, now that that unpleasantness is over," Mrs. Higurashi said. "It's time for dinner!"

*Believe In* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

"That wasn't so bad," Kagome said as she and her boyfriend began their walk home, weighed down by gifts given by the Higurashi family.

"It certainly could have been worse," the taiyoukai agreed. "You do realize that your grandfather still disapproves of human/demon relationships."

"I know, but he's trying. That's all I can really ask for. He's right, you know. Things were different when he was young. It's not easy to change a belief you grew up with just because society has evolved with the newer generations. So long as he can keep his nasty opinions to himself, I can't really expect much more. He said he's okay with us. That's enough for me."

"And your mother?"

"Think about it. She grew up with him putting the same thoughts in her head. She's better, though, at having an open mind. She wouldn't have allowed me to have demon and hanyou friends when I was younger otherwise. She always let me be myself and make my own decisions, no matter her opinion on things. Personally, I think she likes you, even if she is a little uncomfortable with the whole thing. It'll take time, but eventually she'll love you like I do. She loves Inuyasha like a son. It took years, but she does. So long as you plan on sticking around, you'll get there with her."

"I have no plans on going anywhere," Sesshoumaru said, slowing to press his lips to hers. "I intend to stay by your side forever."

Kagome blushed lightly but smiled. "Me too."
