Chapter 45 - The Tail

*Anamnesis* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

"Oh my gods, you have a tail," Kagome repeated.

Sesshoumaru's heart fell into his stomach. She didn't seem angry that he had hidden things from her, or that he had been lying to her from the beginning, but she seemed to have a problem with his tail. That had been the biggest thing he was hiding, far more obvious than is markings or his instincts, and it was what he always feared she would react poorly to. Now he knew his worries were not unfounded.

"Can... Can I touch it?" she asked hesitantly.

"Of course you can," he replied. "You are not angry?"

"Eh," Kagome started. "That depends on why you did it." She sat down at the end of the mattress and looked over his tail. It became visible between his thighs, went under his left knee, and ran alongside his left calf to just below his foot. Carefully, as if she were afraid to hurt him, she reached out and caressed the length of white fur towards the end while Sesshoumaru began his explanation.

"In the beginning, when we first met, I knew very little about you, but I knew I wanted to know more. I heard about your short relationship with the wolf and assumed you were uncomfortable with either his instincts or his demonic characteristics. I was so desperate for you to agree to go out with me that I hid everything I could. I did not consider that I would have to continue to keep my traits hidden or admit I lied to you. I was afraid I would lose you if I confessed, and so I continued to use the concealment spell whenever in your presence. It didn't really become a problem until we moved in together, and I realized I could never go to sleep without the spell falling."

"That had to be rough," Kagome responded, her hand still stroking his fur.

Sesshoumaru had to bite back a groan at the feeling. It was incredibly pleasurable to have someone touching his tail, but it was also extremely intimate. He had never allowed past girlfriends to do so, but Kagome was special. Kagome was the one, and he needed her to accept his tail if he ever wanted to make her his mate.

"It was not easy. I assume you have figured out what I was doing in the hotel?"

The miko nodded. "Inuyasha actually told me, but he couldn't tell me why you needed to sleep without giving away your secret. You know that was incredibly stupid, right?"

"Indeed, but I felt that I had no other choice. To maintain the spell, I had to rest."

"Or you could have just 'fessed up during one of the dozens of opportunities I gave you. So, can you move it?" she asked, overwhelmingly curious.

"I can," he answered, wrapping the end of his tail around her wrist playfully.

"This is amazing. I had no idea you had a tail. Kouga was weird about his. He didn't like anyone touching it, but I swear, he stroked that thing himself all the time."

Sesshoumaru chuckled. "That is very telling. To a demon, allowing someone to touch your tail is an intimate thing. It feels quite good, but you do not want just anyone petting you. Stroking it yourself is actually akin to masturbating."

Kagome jerked her hand back from the taiyoukai's tail, eyes wide. "Are you serious? I'm jacking you off right now?"

Now Sesshoumaru outright laughed. "Not exactly, no. I would not reach climax from your petting my tail, but it feels extraordinary."

The miko returned to her petting, enjoying the feeling of his fur between her fingers and smiled at the taiyoukai. "I dumped Kouga because he was possessive and controlling. I like the demon stuff... a lot. I was actually disappointed that you didn't use your fangs and claws. I like the growling, and I especially like the licking," she said with a twinkle in her eye. "All this time, I would have loved for you to follow your instincts."

"And my tail?" he asked hesitantly. He still wasn't sure how she felt about something so unusual. She seemed to enjoy touching it, but did that mean she could live with a man who had a tail for the rest of her life?

Kagome shot him a grin. "Does it look like it bothers me? No, you know what really bugs me?" She could see the worry in his eyes, and she paused for a long moment before continuing, just to punish him a little for his stupidity. "That you were hiding those delicious markings from me all this time."

"You mean?" Sesshoumaru's eyes widened as Kagome leaned down and ran her tongue along the markings on his hips.

"I mean I love them. You should never have hidden things from me, but I understand why you did. From now on, no more lies, okay?"

The taiyoukai simply nodded his head, moaning as she licked his stripes once again. Apparently the intimate part of their night wasn't over yet, and he was glad. Not only could he focus entirely on being with her for the first time ever, but he could also finally fall truly asleep with her in his arms.
