*Night of Demons* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

Kagome was mentally freaking out. Without Sango there to assure her that everything was fine and nothing horrible was happening that would destroy her relationship, she couldn't stop wondering. That call had made her blood run cold, and now thoughts of it were like demons, tormenting her until she could think of nothing else.

She was trying her best to keep busy, making a handmade wreath for her mother. Ever since they were children, the matron Higurashi had always preferred handmade gifts to store bought, and so Kagome always tried to make something more stunning than the last. Her hands shook as she attached tiny wrapped gifts and colorful foliage, and she stopped every few minutes to compulsively shove Christmas cookies in her mouth, but neither busywork nor overeating comfort foods were helping her.

*Those Who Can Cut Through* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

She wasn't like some people, who could simply put problems out of their minds. Her mind wasn't nearly so kind. She kept being reminded of the look on Sesshoumaru's face when he first saw her after walking through the door the evening before. He looked so guilty, and then so relieved, when she spotted his jacket and relaxed. She hadn't even remembered the slight shift in his expression until the middle of the night when she awoke with a start.

She had to find out. She had to know if the man she loved was cheating on her. She thought they were happy, but then he was already hiding things from her, so perhaps he wasn't as happy as she believed him to be. Maybe he was seeing a demoness on the side, someone who he felt comfortable truly being himself with.

*Frightening Females* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

By the time Sesshoumaru arrived, Kagome was beside herself and determined to find the answers to her questions. When he walked through the door, the look of determination of her face frightened him. It reminded him of her expression the night before, and now he was truly concerned that something had gone wrong somewhere, somehow.

"Sesshoumaru, where were you during lunch yesterday?" she asked before he even closed the front door behind him.

Deciding honesty was the best policy, he told her the truth. "At the mall shopping for your Christmas present. Why?" Had she figured him out somehow? Had his greatest fear been realized? Did she know about the hotel? Did she think he was cheating? He knew it looked bad, and it was nearly unexplainable. What woman would believe her boyfriend if he told her he was merely napping during his lunch hour? He hadn't figured out how he was going to explain what he had been hiding from her for so long, so he couldn't very well explain why he was so exhausted that he resorted to lunch hour naps in a hotel.

"And the day before?"

It was at that moment that Sesshoumaru truly began panicking.

*Devil Created* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

"Because I got a call from a hotel saying that you forgot your suit jacket in your room. Your room! What in the hell were you doing in a hotel room in the middle of the day?"

He was ready with a lie. Sure, it wasn't a good one, and he was certain that the truth showed on his face, but he was ready anyway. He didn't, however, get a chance to open his mouth before she continued.

"Sango told me that you had to have gotten a room for a business associate, and the hotel was just confused. Was that it?"

Sesshoumaru merely nodded. That was close enough to the story he was prepared to tell her. It was plausible and apparently yesterday she had believed it enough to show him one hell of a night in her Christmas lingerie.

Kagome studied him for a long moment, and the taiyoukai swallowed hard. "I'm not sure I believe you. Are you cheating on me, Sesshoumaru?"

"What? Never!" he responded instantly. There was no way he would ever betray her in such a despicable way. "I love you, Kagome, and I have no interest in any other woman. You are the one I want, the only one. I swear it on my very soul."

The miko appraised him once again and saw truth in his eyes. So he wasn't cheating, but if that wasn't it, then what in the hell was he lying about? She was sure he wasn't telling her the complete truth, and she wanted to know what he was hiding, now!
