Chapter 29 - Special

*Delusion* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

Kagome sat staring at the tree. It was missing something, but she couldn't figure out what. She was doing her best to keep her thoughts off the betrayal of her family, but it wasn't working well, so she was trying to keep busy. She always thought they would support her in whatever she chose to do, and the discovery that they had been lying to her face about their feelings concerning Sesshoumaru was devastating. She kept hearing her grandfather calling her a demon's whore in her mind, cycling over and over.

Shaking away her dark thoughts, she returned her attention to the sparkling evergreen in her living room. What was missing? What had she forgotten?

"Ah!" she said louder than necessary. "Tinsel! I forgot the tinsel!"

The miko raced down the hall to dig through what remained of her mountain of decorations. She still had quite a bit to put up and after a few moments, she found the package she was looking for.

*Silver of the Emperor* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

"Sesshoumaru?" she asked, poking her head into the office where the taiyoukai was sitting at the computer. "Could you help me for a few minutes, or are you too busy?"

"Of course I will assist you," he said, turning to see the miko holding a package of silver strands. He mentally sighed. More decorating? Would this torture never end? When she bounced in excitement and then turned to walk away, Sesshoumaru rose to follow. When they reached the living room, and he realized she intended to add more to the tree, he frowned. "Is the tree not finished?"

"Not yet. I forgot the tinsel! Okay, so I need you to stand here with your hands out like this," she said while holding her hands out, thumbs up. Sesshoumaru mimicked her positioning and waited while she opened the package. She carefully laid the silver strands over one hand and then the other so that she could easily pick up just a few strands at a time without getting the rest twisted and knotted around each other.

The taiyoukai stood, feeling like a dish rack, while watching the happiness decorating caused his miko. He could definitely do without the Christmas music, which seemed to be playing constantly, but seeing her humming along warmed his heart.

*Deep Catharsis* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

Kagome turned to collect more tinsel when she noticed his fingertips. "Are you letting your claws grow out?" she asked.

Sesshoumaru froze. He couldn't believe he had forgotten to trim them that morning! Now she noticed, and it was obvious that he had, in fact, been keeping them trimmed all this time. What was he supposed to say? 'Yes, I've decided not to hide the fact that I have claws from you anymore?' Or perhaps 'No, I just forgot to cut them when I woke up before you like I do every morning so you don't catch me doing it?'

She could see the conflict in his eyes and decided to help him a little. "I always thought you kept them cut so it was easier to type. I know when I had fake nails it was nearly impossible to type right. I popped  those things off within twenty-four hours. Is that why you always keep them short?"

Now he had another problem. Did he lie to her and agree? Did he tell her the truth and admit he kept them short to keep her from noticing them?

Kagome smiled. He had no idea what to say. "I'm glad you're growing them out. I like them. Knowing that you have those deadly weapons at the tips of your fingers but also knowing that you'd never hurt me... I don't know. It makes me feel special."

"It does?" he asked in shock. He had no idea. This woman was amazing. She truly loved everything about him. At least everything she knew. He hadn't needed to hide a thing, not even his biggest secret, because he didn't doubt she would have liked that, too, if only he had given her the chance.
