Chapter 12 - The Amusement Park

"You wanna tell me again what I'm doing here?" Inuyasha grumbled, less than pleased to be dragged out of the house to be a third wheel on one of Kagome and Sesshoumaru's dates. He was thrilled to spend time with his best friend, but less so with the taiyoukai that he still didn't like or trust.

"Because we thought it would be fun for all of us!" Kagome exclaimed. She was thrilled to hear Sesshoumaru's idea for their destination, as well as his suggestion that they bring Inuyasha along with them, so much so that she'd nearly given him a thank you blow job. It had been difficult to resist.

She couldn't believe that they had broken their agreement so quickly, not that she hadn't enjoyed it. The sex had been exquisite, but that wasn't the point. They were supposed to be getting to know each other as people, not just having mind blowing, earth shattering sex. She was especially shocked that she allowed it to happen in a public place. Obviously Sesshoumaru was a bad influence on her because she never even considered doing such a thing before.

Kagome was glad they had reinstated their deal, and she suspected that Inuyasha was there to help them keep it. There would be no sneaking off for a few passionate moments with the hanyou around; that much was certain. Her best friend didn't need more reasons to dislike his brother. He had enough as it was.

"So, what should we do first? Games, rides, or food?" she asked her companions.

Inuyasha grinned. "Let's not put any food in that stomach of yours until after we hit a few of the best rides, babe. I'm not interested in wearing your meal," he said with a laugh.

Kagome blushed like a tomato, and Sesshoumaru smiled at how adorable she looked. He didn't quite appreciate Inuyasha calling Kagome 'babe', but he kept his mouth shut. The miko hadn't reacted at all, as if it was something commonplace, so he couldn't make a big deal of it. He couldn't expect his brother to change the way he behaved with his best friend just for his sake if he wanted to keep Kagome happy. They didn't need another reason to fight, and he was certain it would turn into something if he complained.

"So, what kind of rides do you like, Sesshoumaru?" Kagome inquired while scoping out all the options.

"I have not been to a place like this since I was a child," he confessed.

"Really? Why? I think it's the perfect place for a date."

"Well, he doesn't date," Inuyasha informed her. "He has anonymous sex with one night stands. And when he does date, he's with snooty, rich bitches that wouldn't be caught dead in a place like this."

Sesshoumaru growled his displeasure at the hanyou's statement, and Kagome scowled at her friend. "Inuyasha, don't try to start a fight, please.”

"I'm not. I'm just telling the truth. Don't you think she deserves to know the truth about you, Sesshoumaru? I mean, if you wanna mate her, you shouldn't be hiding your past. It might just come up to bite you in the ass."

Kagome's scowl deepened as she heard Inuyasha's words. Sesshoumaru hadn't said a word to her about courting yet, which made her worry that perhaps he wasn't so terribly certain that he wanted to make her his mate after all. She was very concerned, because she knew courting was the first step. If he wanted to mate her, why hadn't he asked?

She knew a lot about inu youkai mating, a side effect of basically being a part of the family since she was ten, but she didn't know how the ceremony he performed would affect them if he chose another as his mate. Would it keep him from mating the woman he chose? Were they stuck together whether they could work it out or not? If he didn't ask her soon, she was going to have to speak with their father about it.

If the bond could be broken, she would happily do so if it meant Sesshoumaru would be happy with another. It would break her heart, but she had no desire to hold him back. What he did was done out of necessity, and she couldn't blame him if he came to regret it. They barely knew each other when he saved her life!

Sesshoumaru noticed her suddenly sad expression, but he equated it to him and his brother already having an argument. They had barely been together fifteen minutes and they were already butting heads. Her nervousness was also mistaken for worry that they would be unable to get along and their day would be ruined.

Deciding to deal with Inuyasha's attitude immediately instead of ignoring it, Sesshoumaru turned to his brother. "I would and will happily tell her everything about my past, but I believe that it should be up to me to do so, not you."

"How can I trust that you'll tell her the truth?" Inuyasha exclaimed.

"Calm down, Inuyasha," Kagome said with her hand on the hanyou's arm affectionately. “Don't worry so much. He's not going to lie to me. We've got too much riding on this."

The hanyou frowned but stayed silent for a moment. "Fine, then let's pick a ride already. What are you in the mood for? The teacups, the spider, or that thing?" he asked, pointing at a ride that spun rapidly in two circles, like the planet's rotation and its orbit around the sun.

Sesshoumaru's eyes widened as he took in Inuyasha's suggestion. Kagome would want to ride something like that? Sure, he rode such rides as a child, but not for a very long time. He had no idea if his stomach could handle such a thing, but apparently he was going to find out because the hanyou was giving him a challenging look, daring him to back down from the ride, and he could not do so. He would not show fear over a simple amusement park ride in front of his mate-to-be.

He really needed to ask her permission to court her. He had been waiting until they could have a meaningful witness instead of strangers or mere acquaintances, and Inuyasha was perfect, another reason he had suggested they bring him along. At some point, before this day was over, he would find out if she would allow him to officially court her, traditionally the first step in demon matings. His father had warned him that he needed to follow the steps because of her knowledge of inu mating rituals, and so he would do so. His beast was also screaming for him to make it official, his instincts demanding it. He had no idea she was worried about it, but he would soon be putting her worries to rest.

Zephyrus - a warm west wind, zephyr (Stella's Latin Challenge)

"It's right here. Might as well ride this one!" Kagome said with a brilliant smile, satisfied that the brothers had ended their little spat.

She knew Inuyasha would continue to try to convince her that his brother was bad news, and she would just have to keep telling him to stay out of it. She trusted that Sesshoumaru wouldn't lie to her about anything important. He already confessed to being a workaholic, something she was concerned about. He also told her that he would be one no longer, something that made her very happy. They would figure everything out, the good and the bad, themselves, with no need for anyone else's interference, she was sure of it.

The three of them got into line and waited for the ride to end. The riders disembarked and in a few moments, the trio was trying to figure out how to sit.

"Kagome has to be on the inside, because the spinning shoves everyone to the end. We don't want to crush her," Inuyasha explained to his brother, who had no idea how this kind of thing worked. "You're the biggest. You should sit at the end."

Sesshoumaru held back a sigh and nodded. He didn't like the idea of Inuyasha sitting between them. The whole point to their dating was to get to know one another, though he doubted they would be doing much talking on this nightmare of a ride they had chosen.

Once they were all seated and the safety bar lowered into place, Kagome leaned forward so she could see Sesshoumaru past her best friend. Inuyasha rolled his eyes but leaned back to give her a better view. "You're gonna love this," she said. "It's exhilarating!"

Sesshoumaru wasn't so sure, but he nodded again. He wasn't looking forward to having his brother smashed up against him for god knows how long, but if it made her happy, it was worth it. He could only hope that not all the rides would be like this.

Inuyasha smirked as the ride started to spin, and he held tightly to the safety bar. He wasn't interested in being crushed up against his brother any more than Sesshoumaru was, and he intended to try to stop it if he could. Kagome squealed in happiness as the ride sped up, the wind blowing their hair everywhere at once. The hanyou felt as she was pushed against his side, and he wrapped one arm around her, his other still clinging tightly to the bar to keep him from touching Sesshoumaru, who was looking more than a little uncomfortable.

"Whatever you do, don't puke," Inuyasha yelled in his brother's direction. "We'll all be wearing it!"

Sesshoumaru huffed. As if he was so weak as to throw up on a mere ride. No, his stomach was not necessarily pleased with the rapid rotation, but he would be fine. His breakfast was not yet threatening to rise, and if it did, he would manage to hold it down. He would never live it down if he threw up all over Kagome.

Finally, the ride began to slow to a stop, and Kagome whined her disappointment. Sesshoumaru couldn't believe such a small female enjoyed thrill rides as much as she obviously did, and he knew his day was going to continue on in a similar fashion to how it started. Once they were at a full stop, the safety bar released, and they climbed down. Kagome wavered on her feet, dizzy from all the revolutions, and Inuyasha automatically steadied her as if he had done so before. The taiyoukai imagined he had many times in the past, as the two seemed to have this down to a science.

Cachinnatio - violent laughter (Stella's Latin Challenge)

"Oh, my god, Sesshoumaru," Kagome said, her eyes wide.

"What?" he asked as his brother began to snicker.

"Your hair!"

Sesshoumaru quickly attempted to run his fingers through his hair, only to find a knotted mess. He mentally cursed the ride as he struggled to straighten his usually perfect locks. Kagome took pity on him and began to help, all the while Inuyasha laughed violently.

"I don't know what you find so amusing," Sesshoumaru said. "Your hair is no better."

"Yeah, but I know enough to know it's only gonna get worse with this girl around. Just leave it alone."

"You expect me to walk around like this?" he asked in irritation.

"There," Kagome said as she unfurled the final tangle. "How about we put it in a braid?" she asked, knowing how Sesshoumaru prided his appearance. The taiyoukai nodded and sat on an available bench to allow his female to groom him, something he enjoyed immensely. Kagome quickly put up his hair in a ponytail with a spare hair band before braiding the nearly knee-length mass of silver strands. She tied it off with another and smiled at her work. "Perfect. That should keep that from happening again."

Sesshoumaru smirked at Kagome's mess of black hair. She looked quite similar to how she did after he fucked her senseless and just the sight was arousing. He had to fight down an erection while Inuyasha glared at him, sensing his situation. When he was fully in control of his body once more, the taiyoukai smiled at his miko.

"So, what's next?"

After dozens of rides, many ridden multiple times, Kagome decided that Sesshoumaru had suffered enough. She was hungry, and so they headed to one of the many food stands in the park. The taiyoukai scowled as he took in the menu. There was not a single healthy option available, and he couldn't believe Inuyasha would allow his best friend to eat such garbage.

Kagome noticed his scowl and giggled. "It's all good, trust me. I love the food here."

"How are you so thin if you eat food like this?" he asked.

Kagome only laughed more. "I've got a fast metabolism. Besides, I don't eat like this all the time, but when you're here, you have to eat park food. It's like a law."

"She loves this shit, don't ya, 'Gome?" Inuyasha said with a smirk, loving the fact that he knew so much more about her than Sesshoumaru did.

Sesshoumaru did his best to ignore his brother's gloating tone. The boy was well aware that he knew very little about the woman he intended to mate, but that didn't mean he had to be a jerk about it. However, Kagome didn't seem to notice, only nodding as she ordered. Inuyasha put in his order and when Sesshoumaru simply stood there staring at the menu, Kagome laughed and ordered for him, selecting a few of her favorites for him to try. He made a face but allowed it. Eating garbage just this once wouldn't hurt him.

The taiyoukai was surprised at how good a corndog was, making both Inuyasha and Kagome laugh at him once again.

"You've really never had one before?" the miko asked. When he shook his head before taking another bite, she smiled. "You're a food snob, aren't you?"

Sesshoumaru swallowed hard. "A food snob?"

"Oh, he's a total food snob. He likes to go to the fanciest, most expensive restaurants that serve tiny portions of strange dishes made with obscure ingredients. He likes to cook, too. Has he told you that?"

Kagome grinned. "He more than told me. He showed me. Your brother is an excellent chef."

Sesshoumaru was trying to decide if being a food snob was a bad thing in Kagome's mind or not. He couldn't tell by her reaction, but she was smiling at him, so he hoped she didn't mind. Yes, he considered himself a foodie, but not a food snob, though he imagined the two could be the same thing after all. He was very picky about what he put into his body, not only because he believed in healthy living but also because he had the option to go to high end restaurants. Why eat fast food when he could afford gourmet?

He watched in amazement as Kagome packed the food away. She hadn't eaten like that at the charity event, nor when he cooked for her. Did she really enjoy this type of food that much?

Inuyasha laughed at the look on his brother's face. "She's a bottomless pit for this shit. Now, we can't let her ride anything that spins or it'll all come back up."

"It will not," Kagome protested with a blush.

"It will, too, and you know it," the hanyou argued. "Maybe if you didn't eat so much of it, it wouldn't be so bad, but you gorge yourself until you feel sick. You're restricted to boring rides and the games for at least an hour, maybe two."

"Aww, but mom," Kagome whined with a smile.

Sesshoumaru discovered that he was very good at amusement park games. He could easily knock down all of the milk bottles or aim the water gun into the clown's mouth. Kagome actually had to drag him away because his competitive spirit was coming out. He and his brother won more prizes than they could carry and soon there were some very happy children carrying around enormous stuffed animals that their parents could never have won for them.

The miko couldn't stop smiling at the sight of Sesshoumaru giving one little girl an enormous white dog. The child had asked his name and then declared that would be the name of her new toy, one big enough she could have easily ridden it like a horse. Watching him interact with children had her ovaries in her throat, and she wondered if he wanted children of his own. That was definitely something they were going to have to discuss, as she most certainly did.

Once all the toys were dispersed, the trio rode more rides, the slower ones this time, and soon it was growing dark. The Ferris wheel had been saved for last, as the miko desired to ride it when it was all lit up. Thankfully, it had gondolas instead of straight facing seats, so the three of them didn't have to be crammed into one bench-like seat. Sesshoumaru was glad Inuyasha was riding with them, because ever since the miko had mentioned the Ferris wheel in the dark, his mind had been going naughty places. If they rode it alone, he didn't doubt they would end up breaking their agreement once again.

*Ceremonial Words* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

The ride was fairly quiet, besides the soft music playing over the speakers, and Sesshoumaru decided to take that moment to ask his question. He thought it was rather romantic, even with the hanyou, who was necessary. One had to have a witness when asking to court someone, and Inuyasha was the perfect witness.

"Kagome," the taiyoukai started, suddenly feeling nervous. He didn't think she would deny him, but for some reason his stomach was in knots anyway. The miko turned in her seat to look at him with questioning eyes. "Here, with Inuyasha as our witness, would you allow me to court you?"

He watched as a smile slowly spread across her face, and he instantly relaxed. Of course she would say yes! What had he been so worried about?

"Yes!" Kagome exclaimed, cupping his cheeks with both hands and kissing him passionately.

Inuyasha watched in silence, doing everything in his power to keep from making a rude noise at the sight. This was an important moment in Kagome's life, and he refused to ruin it for her, even if he didn't really approve. He knew the two of them would end up mated and married, probably sooner rather than later. He didn't have to like it, but he would have to accept it if he intended to keep his best friend.

When the couple finally pulled apart, Inuyasha nodded at Sesshoumaru before smiling at Kagome. "Congratulations," he forced out.

Kagome grinned; thrilled her friend had managed to behave himself. She might have had to throw him off the Ferris wheel otherwise.
