Coming Together by iamsesshomarusfluff

Under a spell.

Disclamer: I don't own anything Inuyasha.

Author's note: This is the beginning of a series one shots of little stories about Kagome and Sesshomaru I've had in my head for a while now. I just couldn't figure out how to put them into words until now. Here is a little back ground into their story: Kagome is an Angel that saw Sesshomaru in heaven and wanted to be with him. So she made a deal with God that allowed her to come to Earth to be with him. She arrived as a little girl and Sesshomaru as a little boy. This chapter takes place in their adolescence, which explains Kagome's moodiness.

I have been out of writing for a while and just now getting back into it, so please go easy on me in the reviews. I appreciate constructive criticism as it makes me a better writer. Please enjoy this chapter and let me know if you are interested in more.

Kagome stood on the beach, her bare feet buried in the sand and relaxed as the calming waves washed over her bare legs and feet. For three days she had been at the summer palace by herself, and a part of her relished in the quiet. Another part of her was fuming. Three days, and he had yet to notice her absence, for she was sure he would have been here by now if he had noticed. Three whole days he has spent what that harlot demoness. She was baffled as to what he saw in her, but then she was biased. She had been Sesshomaru’s best friend since they were children, and she recently realized she was desperately in love with him. She had this realization about the same time he started to spend so much time with the demoness Akiko.

Akiko is the Southern Lord’s daughter and arrived about a week ago in hopes to become Sesshomaru’s future mate. This was mostly Sesshomaru’s mother’s doing, as she wanted a strong and fertile mate for her son, which was reasonable Kagome mused. Kagome was already aware of InuKimi’s distaste of her and Sesshomaru being together, due to the fact she couldn’t bear children.

At first Kagome thought that Sesshomaru was going to reject Akiko, as he had done countless others. However, there appeared to be some sort of appeal to Akiko, as Sesshomaru had hardly left her side for a week. Akiko had long platinum blond hair with crystal blue eyes, and a killer hourglass figure. She also came from a long line of powerful Inu demons that had migrated to the south many centuries ago. She was a perfect match, and for once in her life, Kagome actively disliked someone. Kagome couldn’t say much to Akiko’s character, however, as she didn’t stay around long enough to get to know the woman, but apparently, she was a packed deal if she could hold Sesshomaru’s attention for this long. For once in her life, Kagome had competition and she found she didn’t like it.

So, Kagome had left to be at the summer palace before she did something she would regret. Like killing Akiko. With a sigh of frustration and longing, she turned around and headed back inside. There were only a handful of servants at the vacant palace, just enough to keep the place clean and running while the royal family was away. Kagome thought that while she was here, she might as well help, so she headed back in to help clean the massive palace.

Tashio sat at his desk in his study, staring down his only son, who stood motionless before him. He had a strange, vacant look in his golden eyes, one that Tashio did not like. Sesshomaru had also been acting very strange and out of character lately and it was time to get to the bottom of it. It had started with the arrival of Lady Akiko and it had only gotten worse with Kagome’s absence. Sesshomaru has been laughing and smiling whenever Lady Akiko was near. Sesshomaru never smiles, even around Kagome. Sesshomaru had also been more vocal, being seen talking endlessly with Akiko. Sesshomaru didn’t even talk that much around Kagome. With Kagome gone, this was the only way he could figure out what was going on with his son.

“Sesshomaru, I called you in here to inform you that your best friend has left,” Tashio said without preamble.

“Left?” He echoed hollowly.

“Yes. Three days ago.”

Sesshomaru stood quietly, blinking at his father.

“Don’t you care?” His father asked loudly, standing up and coming around his desk.

Sesshomaru’s brow furrowed as a spark of life entered his eyes. It appeared to Tashio that he was struggling with something, and the idea that his son was put under a spell entered his mind. It was the only thing that made sense to him. Amber eyes much like his son’s roamed over Sesshomaru’s form, looking for a clue to prove his theory. His eyes landed on a necklace with a polished amber stone. That was new. Without a second thought, Tashio reached toward the necklace, yanked it off, and crushed the stone under foot. Suddenly Sesshomaru rocked on his feet, feeling as though his mind was suddenly cleared from a heavy fog.

“What happened?” he asked breathlessly.

“It appears you were under a spell. Where did you get that necklace?” Tashio growled.

“Akiko gave it to me. She put it on me before I could refuse.”

“I will deal with Akiko,” Tashio rumbled, “But right now you need to go to Kagome.”

“Why? What’s happened?”

“You don’t remember what I just told you?” Tashio asked astonished.

“I remember you saying something about her, but nothing registered,” Sesshomaru replied guiltily.

“I was telling you that she left. Three days ago.”

“She left?” Sesshomaru asked in a low tone. “Why would she leave? Where did she go?”

“I’m assuming she left because she couldn’t handle seeing you with Akiko anymore, and she went to the summer palace. She’s been there alone for the past few days, so she’s had some time to simmer.”

“Oh, I’m in so much trouble,”

“Perhaps. But She’s probably more hurt than angry,”

“I don’t like either one,”

“Then you better apologize like hell.”

******************************************************************************

Kagome mindlessly walked the empty halls of the summer palace, her mind going a million miles a minute. She couldn’t get it to stop since she arrived, despite her best efforts and the quietness of the palace. She just couldn’t get the sight of Akiko hanging off Sesshomaru’s arm as he smiled down at her. A smile she never received. She realized some time ago that she was feeling incredibly jealous, but she just wasn’t used to sharing Sesshomaru. They had always been inseparable, no matter what. She supposed she had better get used to Sesshomaru being around other women, now that his parents were looking for a mate for him. It helped subdue some of the rage she felt, but she still felt the need to stay at the empty palace until she could get her volatile emotions under control.

She found herself back at the beach, but her mood was more forlorn than it had been last time and she went into the water up to her knees in her white dress. It was the only place her buzzing mind could get any reprieve as she let the roar of the waves soothe her aching heart. Suddenly she felt a huge demonic aura headed her way and closed her eyes against the torrent of emotions that his presence caused. Soon she was surrounded by his aura and could hear his footsteps as he approached her.

He was nervous. Good, she thought.

He stopped behind her, avoiding getting his boots wet. They stood in silence for a while, with Kagome lost in her emotions and Sesshomaru unsure how to begin his apology. Unable to take her silence any longer, Sesshomaru removed his boots and moved to stand beside her in the ocean water. It was freezing cold out today, with it being in the middle of winter, and despite his demonic blood, the water quickly numbed his feet.

“I can explain,” He finally began, turning to face her. She remained still as a statue, her bicolored eyes staring off into the distance.

“It better be a good explanation,” she replied quietly.

“Apparently I was put under a spell by Akiko. It was the necklace she put on me when we first met. My father figured it out and crushed the stone. I’m not sure of all that I did while I was under the spell, as my mind was in a constant fog, but for whatever I did, I truly am sorry.”

“You abandoned me Sesshomaru. A simple apology won’t cut it this time.”

“Then how do I make amends?”

“Will you spar with me?”

“Right now?”

“Yes.”

“…Alright,” he conceded. He figured she had some pent-up anger she needed to release.

She turned without another word to get onto dry sand. A light flashed in her hands and when it faded, she held a blunted sparing sword. When Sesshomaru was also standing on dry sand, she tossed him the blunt sword and summoned another one for herself. She braced the sword in front of her but didn’t make her move just yet. To be honest, she didn’t plan on doing this, but the spell excuse just pushed her anger over the edge.

Without saying a word, she lunged, immediately on the offensive. He of course blocked her attack effortlessly and thus began their dance. They were closely matched, but Kagome was always just slightly stronger, slightly faster. They spun around each other, the sharp ring of metal clashing against metal ringing in the salty air. At one point, when Sesshomaru had her on the ground, Kagome took a fist full of sand and flung it at his eyes. It would appear that this was a hold nothing back kind of fight, but he really shouldn’t be surprised. Kagome fought to win.

As Kagome twirled around him, blocking his attack, he began to wonder just how pissed off she was. They had been sparing for several hours now and even though he wasn’t getting physically tired, he was getting tired of their fighting. Deciding to get serious for a moment, he stood still as Kagome once again charged him, only to move at the last second and throwing her balance off. Taking advantage, he kicked her feet from under her and flashed his sword to her now exposed throat.

“Enough,” he barked.

For a moment it looked like Kagome was going to argue the point but decided against it as she nodded her head in defeat. It wasn’t often he defeated her, but he took no joy this time. He tossed the sword to the ground and it disappeared in a flash of light. Stepping back, he offered her his hand to help her up, which she took.

“Do you feel better?” He as once they were standing and dusted off as much of the sand as they could.

Kagome huffed a breath as she looked at him, her blue and gold eyes staring through him. “Was it really a spell?” she asked, in a rare moment of insecurity.

“It really was. You can ask father when we get back,”

“What is going to happen to Lady Akiko?”

“I am unsure. Father said he would deal with her,”

“I guess I can take a small comfort in that, at least. I know he won’t go easy on her.”

“Can we go home now?”

Kagome looked towards the summer palace and a part of her was unwilling to give up the quiet and solace the summer palace offered. She wasn’t ready to return to the main palace and face everyone. Now that she got her anger out, all that was left was embarrassment. She was embarrassed at the way she reacted. She was embarrassed of her jealousy. She was embarrassed at easily she gave him up. Suddenly needing him to herself she made up her mind.

“Can we stay here for a few days? I don’t want to go back just yet.”

Sesshomaru stared at her for a few moments. He was surprised of how quickly her moods changed. One moment she was furious, but now it seemed all that was left was sadness. He supposed the sparing had let her vent her emotions and now she was just emotionally drained. He also liked the idea of having the palace to themselves. He felt a rift between them, and he didn’t like it, not one bit.

“I would like that,” he finally said.
