Letting go, again, was harder than she anticipated. Kagome tightened her hands into fists as she watched the small group of youkai building the pyre. The fortress was quiet, and the air chilly. Soon she will watch the wood burn, and be forced to mourn yet another child.

It had to be bad luck, to lose them both so near each other. Sesshomaru had brushed her suspicion off, claiming that it was just a coincidence, but Kagome knew better. Someone out there held a grudge, and had succeeded in delivering a significant blow.

She was going to find out the truth. She was going to find their unseen enemy. And she wasn’t going to release her anger until she did. She would avenge her children.
