Kagome walked side by side with Sango, trailing behind InuYasha and Miroku. Shippou was perched lazily on Kirara's back, napping.

They were walking under a canopy of trees, the sun filtering through the leaves and dappling the forest floor in pale gold light. It was a peaceful day in the Sengoku Jidai. The group had not run into any youkai as of yet, although InuYasha was very determined. His hand clutched the hilt of Tetsusaiga, ready to slice anything at any moment. Kagome could tell the hanyou was on edge. He walked stiffly, his shoulders rigid and his nose held high in the air, sniffing for anything out of the ordinary.

Kagome knew that InuYasha didn't trust this day. It was too peaceful, too good to be true. She knew because she didn't trust it either. But she tried to enjoy it, tried to be calm before something struck.

"Hey, Kagome, sense any shards yet?" She heard InuYasha call. Kagome squeezed her eyes shut, reaching out with her holy powers, feeling for a presence, even if it was small.

She opened her eyes again, to find that she had stopped walking, and the others had stopped and watched her, as if she were about to predict the future. She smiled awkwardly.

"I don't sense any shards, but I do sense a presence of youki a little to the east." Kagome chirped, trying to lighten the mood. They were so close to completing the Shikon no Tama, so close that if they encountered a youkai, they were disappointed when they found out it did not posses a shard.

"Feh. As if it could be any use to us." InuYasha complained. His determined expression melted into an annoyed one.

Kagome put her hands on her hips, "Hey, that youkai could be searching for a shard, so it's be best to kill in before it does."

Shippou had awoken a few moments earlier, and was now standing on Kirara, narrowing his eyes in InuYasha's direction, "Yeah, you big meanie! Kagome's trying her best and you should appreciate her more!" He shouted, his fluffy tail swishing furiously.

InuYasha bonked Shippou on the head, "Shut up, runt. You don't know nothin'"

"InuYasha!" Miroku cried, always the peace keeper. Kagome looked around for Sango, discovering that she was already changing into her demon-slaying outfit behind a nearby tree.

Miroku followed her eyes and spotted Sango, a mischievous glint in his eye.

Kagome tried to distract him, for Sango's sake.

"Let's just go find the youkai before I can't sense it anymore?" Kagome suggested.

Miroku looked back to her, nodding, "Yes, yes, that sounds like a good idea, Kagome."

InuYasha huffed, displeased at not getting his way. "Fine then. East, right?"

Kagome nodded once, and InuYasha lowered to his knees so she could climb onto his back. She hopped on, excited for the thrill of being up so high, the wind whipping around her face.

InuYasha pushed off the ground with his foot, and they were up, above the tree tops. Kagome had a funny feeling in the pit of her stomach, but she welcomed it happily.

Soon, Kirara rose up next to them, carrying Sango and Miroku. Shippou had transformed into that big pink bubble and followed close behind. Kagome closed her eyes and smiled. She lived for this. She wondered if they would still do this after the sacred jewel was completed. She bit her lip and tried not to think about it.

Soon they reached a bubbling stream, and they hit the ground with a thud. Kagome clambered off InuYasha's back.

"Somewhere around here. This is where the presence is the strongest. It's kind of.. ominous." Kagome said more to herself than the others. They walked in the direction the stream was flowing, and the presence only grew stronger. Kagome was overwhelmed. It was as if two powerful youkai had had a baby.

Soon, she saw a flash of silver. Then more. Swaying silver in the summer breeze. It was hair, Kagome realized. She immediately knew who it was.

"Sesshoumaru," She heard InuYasha spit venomously. The sound of Tetsusaiga unsheathing echoed in her ears.

Sesshoumaru turned, his honey-coloured eyes shining. His face was calm, like always. His lips pressed in a straight line. the fabric of his white kimono rippled. his Mokomoko waved like a banner.

Kagome took in how beautiful he was. Almost god-like. She had developed a crush on Sesshoumaru a couple months ago, when they were fighting the Band of Seven on Mount Hakurei.

She'd hardly ever spoken to the youkai lord, and yet, whenever she saw him, she had butterflies in the pit of her stomach. Despite him trying to take her life more than once, she still swooned like one would a movie star.

"Little brother," Sesshoumaru greeted. He made no move to draw Toukijin from its sheath. Instead, he just stood there calmly. "I do not wish to spar today. I am busy."

InuYasha scoffed, holding Tetsusaiga in front of him, getting ready to charge.

"I advise you to stay away. I do not wish to waste my time with you." Sesshoumaru said cooly. Kagome instantly knew why the aura she felt had almost knocked her off her feet.

Not only was Sesshoumaru there, but somewhere nearby, there was another strong youkai. She turned her head, looking at InuYasha's tensed form, "He's right, InuYasha, there has to be another youkai here. Sesshoumaru's aura is not this overwhelming."

InuYasha narrowed his eyes at her, "Since when do you side with him, Kagome?"

Kagome turned fully, leaning forward and crossing her arms, "I'm not siding with him, I'm just telling you that he's right. I sense another youkai very close by. Now if you'd just listen and stop being so stubborn then may -" Kagome's speech was cut off abruptly as she felt a slick tentacle wrap around her waist, pulling her upward.

"Eeek!" She cried, trying to pull free of its grip. The tentacle was too slippery, and soon she found her hands covered in water and goo.

She heard a slight gasp of surprise, one that was almost barely audible. She turned as much as possible and saw that Sesshoumaru had also been taken by a tentacle.

"Kagome!" InuYasha cried, slashing Tetsusaiga this was and that. It did no good, though. This youkai was too strong for even InuYasha.

Told you so, Kagome thought smugly. The tentacles started sinking back into the water, and that's when Kagome started to panic. She looked back to Sesshoumaru, only to see that his face was calm, but in his eyes there was a tiny hint of panic. Fear.

Kagome felt bad for him.

Sesshoumaru's eyes met hers, and Kagome's heart sped up.

"Deep breath," He said before they crashed into the water.

*

Kagome awoke in a dark cave. She blinked a few times, trying to figure out where she was.

Oh, yeah. Water youkai.

She sat up immediately. Water was dripping from the ceiling of the cave. Kagome felt around on the cave floor, feeling for something she could use to escape. Her hand gripped onto something soft. Silky. She grabbed the silky thing with her other hand, trying to figure out what it was. A cold drop of water hit her nose and she grimaced.

She found out quite fast that the thing she was gripping was, indeed, silk.

Kagome remembered Sesshoumaru, and she immediately pulled her hands into her lap, embarrassed.

"I'm so sorry," She stuttered, unsure if Sesshoumaru was awake.

"It is fine, miko." She heard. His voice was deep. Warm.

Kagome tried to scoot back, and soon discovered that the cave was very, very small. She pulled her knees to her chest and hugged them, still incredible flustered.

"I do not suppose you have your bow?" Sesshoumaru asked quietly.

Kagome shook her head, "No, it must've come off after we got pulled under." She muttered. She looked up, her eyes adjusting to the dark. Sesshoumaru's silver hair was plastered to his cheeks, his white kimono was soaked, making it slightly transparent. Kagome blushed furiously. She looked up at his face, and their eyes locked, golden on blue.

She blinked, looking away.

"You do not have anything?" Sesshoumaru whispered.

"No," Kagome looked at her knees. Her right one was scraped up pretty badly. Why are we whispering?

"Don't you have like, poisonous claws or whatever?" She breathed. Whispering like this felt so intimate. The thought made her blush even more.

Sesshoumaru raised his right arm, his claws dripping in green venom. Kagome watched as it oozed onto the stone floor. It did nothing but sizzle.

She rested her head on the wall of the cave, "How is this youkai so.. powerful? I mean, I almost feel like it's impossible to beat."

She heard a soft rustle of silk, "I do not know myself." And it was true. He had never encountered a youkai that he could not defeat. He always assumed he was the most powerful. He observed Kagome, drinking in the sight of her. Her hair, the colour of midnight, wet and disheveled. Her tiny skirt clinging to her legs. Her eyes were closed, and though she looked peaceful, Sesshoumaru could feel panic radiating off her in waves.

He reached over a pushed a strand of black hair behind her ear, and immediately regretted it. He didn't have feelings for her, per se, he was just in a dire situation and.. required some form of comfort. That was it, he told himself.

Kagome's eyes opened just as his clawed finger met her skull. She froze, her body going stiff.

She swallowed thickly. She shouldn't take this seriously. They were both probably going to die, after all. Sesshoumaru's fingers trailed lightly across her cheek, and he pulled his arm back to his side.

Kagome raised her hand to her cheek, "Are you sick or something?" She joked. She gave a short, sharp laugh.

Sesshoumaru raised a delicate white eyebrow, "What is that supposed to mean?"

Kagome shook her head, "Well don't you kind of, erm, hate humans? And you just.." She pressed her hand to her cheek and looked away, "You're never nice to me. You try to kill me."

"Think of it as an apology." Sesshoumaru said pathetically. He couldn't really think of a reasonable explanation for what he just did.

Kagome brought her hand down and leaned forward, "An apology? Your apology is flirting with me?"

Sesshoumaru clenched his fists, "It is not flirting."

Kagome leaned in closer, so close that her shoulder was nearly touching his right knee. So close that the scent of her filled his nostrils until he could smell nothing else. "If it's not flirting, then what is it?" She demanded, narrowing her ocean blue eyes.

Sesshoumaru blinked.

Kagome leaned back, crossing her arms over her chest. "Whatever. Guys never know what they want. Now I see the similarities between you and InuYasha."

"InuYasha and I are not similar," Sesshoumaru stated, growing annoyed with her. She had such a short temper.

"Of course you are! You both hang around with humans, just like your dad! But, unlike your dad, you mix up their feelings until they get so confused, they don't even know what they're feeling."

Sesshoumaru lunged forward, okay, it wasn't really a lunge, giving the small space.

"You know nothing of my father," He boomed. His eyes had turned red.

Kagome's eyes widened. She hadn't meant to hurt his feelings.

"I'm.. I'm sorry, I didn't mean that, I'm just.. upset right now." Kagome said meekly. Sesshoumaru's eyes faded back to their usual colour, but he didn't go back to his former position.

"Um, Sesshoumaru.." Kagome whispered. If he hadn't been a youkai, he wouldn't have heard.

"Miko?" He acknowledged.

"You're kind of.. very close." Kagome pointed out.

"I am aware."

Kagome swallowed again, meeting his gaze.

"Do you know.. what you're feeling?" Sesshoumaru inquired after a couple minutes.

Kagome turned her head and sighed, "I don't know."

Sesshoumaru brought his hand to her chin and turned her head gently so she would look at him.

"That makes two of us," He murmured. Kagome felt as if he was staring right into her soul.

"Sesshoumaru.. Um, what.. what are you doing?" Kagome mumbled. He'd never done this before. Not that she didn't like it.

He blinked. "I am.." He began. His hair slid over his shoulder, brushing Kagome's cheek. "I am claiming what should've been mine a long time ago."

Kagome's cheeks heated up, and her heart thrummed so fast, she marveled at how it didn't burst out of her chest right then and there.

Sesshoumaru leaned forward, closing the gap between them. His lips were soft, gentle.

Kagome had never kissed anyone before.

She decided that she didn't want to kiss anyone else.

She wrapped her arms around Sesshoumaru's neck, breaking the kiss for a few seconds to catch her breath. She didn't know what to say.

"InuYasha's gonna freak," She whispered, trying not to get distracted by the kisses the youkai lord trailed down her shoulder.

He looked at her, kissing her forehead, "He will be alright, Kagome."

She nodded, kissing him again as the wall of the cave opened up and the sun shone upon them.

A/N: Hi! How do you guys like this oneshot? I came up with the idea a few weeks ago and it's just been sitting in my mind,  waiting to be put down. I feel like the relationship between Sess and Kag escalated a bit quickly, but you know, we aren't all perfect authors. I'm really proud of this! Be sure to leave a review, I'd really appreciate it!!!

EDIT: Because of a suggestion from a friend (lol you know who you are) I've decided to make maybe an aftermath to this that helps explain this better, or maybe turn it into a oneshot series?

Whaddya guys think? Should I just make an aftermath or should I make it a oneshot series?
