The Transfer Student by Queen Taisho

Good Morning President Higurashi

" Kagome. Kagome!" I blinked and sucked in a quick breath as a truck sped past me, a loud honk following it down the road. " Damn." I breathed and blinked again as I turned to my best friend who was glaring at me. " The hell is wrong with you today? You've been out of it since this morning. Usually you're the one to wake me up? Are you feeling okay?" She asked me and I gave a small smile. " I'm fine Sango. Just a little tired is all." I said and it was true.

Well sort of.

I had been feeling weird since yesterday, my nose running at the weirdest moments and sudden headaches bringing me to my knees. But I felt well enough to go to school so I was going, I had responsibilities. I coughed and put my smile back in place. " Yeah. I'm fine. Just need a little bit more sleep." I rubbed my eyes and put my hair up in a pony tail. " Okay. Now I'm ready. Let's go." I said and smiled wider when she raised an eyerbow but shrugged and pulled me along behind her.

I didn't become Student Council President for no reason. I had worked hard for my position and I wasn't about to give it up.

We crossed the street and rushed to school though we were over an hour early. " Miss Higurashi! Good morning!!" I turned and squealed, leaping at my best friend when he held his arms open. " Hey Miroku!!! Where've you been? It's been agaes since I last saw you!!!" I yelled and hugged him tighter. Miroku and I had grown up near each other and had eventually become friends, though we had hated each other at first.

" I was down in England for the summer and I met a boy who was visting from Okinawa, same place you were from." He said and then grinned sheepishly when Kagome raised an eyebrow in annoyance. " And?" She asked on a breath, trying to get rid of her sudden annoyance. " Anyway... he says he and his brother are transferring in two days. Isn't that exciting, Kags? Fresh meat!" He yelled and I chuckled at his enthusiam. I knew for a fact that, unlike myself, Miroku was not a morning person.

In his words " the day starts when the sun is off." Again his words, not mine. " Yeah yeah whatever. At least let me make it into the building before you start handing me paper work." I said and a devilish grin appeared on his face,

" Speaking of paper work, Kags...."

" What did I say?"

" But-"

" Miroku."

" Yes Ma'am."

I smiled and walked into the school where Sango was waiting wiht her arms folded across her chest. I hadn't even noticed that she'd left. " Took you long enough, Kags. And what the hell's he doing here?!" She hissed and glared at Miroku who slowly slid behind me.

" He goes here Sango. He has been going to school here for two years." I said though I knew that she knew that. Sango and Miroku didn't have the best relationship. They had been on better terms the year before he'd left but that may have been because they had been going out at the time. Sango had been the last to find out about Miroku leaving and when she went to see him on his last day... she had caught him making out with a graduation senior.

Ever since then, Sango has wanted nothing to do with him. I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose, my headache proding at the edges of my mind and blurring my viosn for a couple of agonizing seconds. " Alright you two. Not today. I'm tired and I have work to catch up on. Now be good children and do not agrivatte Kagome or Kagome will be forced to take drastic measures."

" And why is Kagome talking in third person? You remind me of that kid's brother who's from Oki...nawa?" He questioned when I glared at him and then turned to look at Sango.

" Sango dearest?" I questioned and she smirked at me before cracking her knuckles, already knowing what was on my mind.

" Yes Ma'am?"

" Sick 'em."

" With pleasure." She hissed and launched herself at a fleeing Miroku, landing on his back with her knee planted firmly in his spine.

" Kagome!!" Miroku moaned pitifully from underneath Sango. " I thought we were friends! And you send this- this hippo after me!! I'm uphauled! Consider us broken up!!!" He faked wheezed from beneath Sango who blushed and then karate chopped him in the head before stanidng over him.

" Who's the hippo here, fat head?" She yelled in embarrassment. Miroku and I shared a look before we burst out laughing together.

" Really, Sango? Fat head? That's it?" We asked together and she galred at us, her gaze swinging back and forth between us.

" Oh shut and stop talking in sync, you idiots. Stupidity is contagious and you two need to be quarantined. And your full of it Miroku. Fall off the edge of the Earth and die." She said angrily and glared at him.

" Actually, my dear Sango, it is physically impossible for me to fall off the edge of the Earth, as the world is circular and one does not simply fall off the Earth. That idea would have been sufficient in the 17th century but you see-"

" Oh can it, JACKASS!!!" She yelled and blushed a deeper red as she stalked off into the school. I giggled behind my hand as Sango stomped into the school. Miroku turned to look at me as my gigles got worse. " She's too easy to mess with. Same old boomerang head." He said and then smiled at me.

" You haven't changed much either Kags. Same old bangs, same old stiff suit." He said, gesturing to my grey suit. " I have to dress for the occasion don't I?" I asked and I smiled as he made a face.

" You've been ' dressing for the occasion' for nearly 2 years Kagome. Maybe it's time for you to take a break. You're only here for two more years. Maybe it's time you make some more memories than the ones within these walls, huh?" He asked and I shrugged.

" I like what's familiar. It's that simple. I don't need to go anywhere else. I'm happy where I am." I said and coughed, anther headache coming on.

" Kags? You okay? Your face is turning bright red." Miroku asked but I couldn't respond, a blinding pain forcing me to shut my eyes against the sunlight. " Kags.... KAGOME!!!" I heard him calling me but I couldn't respond, my mouth feeling like it was full of cotton. " Miroku..." It came out as a whisper and another flash of pain hit me once more before I was falling towards the concrete, my consciousness already gone.
