Silver In The Moonlight by Amateur Angel

Chapter 1

Closing my eyes preparing for impact as Kagura’s winds threw my body as a grain of sand across the battlefield.

A cool arm wrapped around my waist pulling me in and spinning me. Feeling the impact go through him I opened my eyes.

“Miko are you hurt.” Asked the stoic lord. Looking up at him, the battle fell away. Quickly nodding I detangled myself from him.

“Its a war, my lord there will be casualt..” Whispering , I turned before I could finish speaking feeling a pulse. I scanned the battlefield before me.

Something was going to happen, something terrible. Searching for my companions I had to save them. They had to walk away from this battle, I would do anything in my power to save them.

Sango was desperately shielding dying Kohaku. The second Sesshomaru had managed to land a strike on Naraku, he had taken Kohaku’s shard and threw him aside as a ragdoll.  Kiara circled around Sango as feral beast blood dripping from her mouth and wounds marring her white fur. She would protect Sango with her life.

Miroku and I had been separated from each other while battling Kagura she had thrown me with her dancing winds . With a lingering glance, Sesshomaru returned to battle I ran for my bow that lay a few feet before me. Reaching for my arrows, my fingers grasped alone arrow, my last arrow.

Shippo hid under Ah-Un, a shooting fire alerting Jaken’s location. Picking up an arrow and bow I planted myself in the ground. I had one arrow, one chance.

Taking a deep breath I drew the bow, Kagura was on her feather battling Miroku’s wind tunnel. This was the moment she was battling Miroku she had yet to realize I was on my feet.Closing my eyes I let out a small prayer and released the arrow.

She didn’t scream, she had a look of disbelief in her eyes as she fell her kimono fluttering as she plummeted to the ground. The arrow had flown true to its mark and embedded itself deep in her chest.

Her feather hauntingly drifted on the wind, across the decimated plain of bodies. A stark white against the blood that would forever soak this earth. The pulse it strengthened, scanning the battleground, I didn’t know what it was but something was going to happen, something terrible I had to stop it.

Feeling the pulse again I turned to Miroku screaming.

“Miroku get to Sango NOW!” Screaming across the field, he did not stop to question or catch his breath from the fight. He broke into a sprint to Sango.

Sesshomaru and Inuyasha held at bay the endless hoard of youkai that continued to come from Naraku.

Koga dragged himself towards his pack with his bloody legs. My legs screamed in protest as I ran towards the Inu brothers.

Shooting holy power at youkai that came toward me. I leapt over a body only to fall, pushing myself up from the cold bloody ground.

Ayame lay before me her vibrant orange hair haloing around her pale face. She had been run through by a snake demon. Koga had tried to save her but Naraku had managed to use his pain against him as he fought and took his shards.

There was a gaping hole where her stomach would have been.” Oh, Ayame.” I whispered closing her eyes.

Naraku had come during the night as a coward when everyone slept. Standing up I felt the pulse before the scream even made it my ears.

The scream pierced the battle that waged, locking eyes with Rin my heart dropped. Kikyo held onto the sword that was embedded deep in Rin.

I was running before I could even process what had just happened.

One of Kikyo’s soul collectors quickly came taking Rin’s soul giving it to its mistress. Her unearthly body healed as the soul absorbed into her. Kikyo began to walk toward Shippo as he cowered behind Ah-Un; tears began to streak his face. She wasn’t recovered she needed more.

Jaken tried to fight his way to Rin’s body. I was too far away I couldn’t make it the realization dawned on me I wouldn’t be able to save him.

“KIKYO!!!” Screaming at the top of my lungs, she turned and smiled a sinister grin.

“Why to take another’s soul when I can have my own soul returned to me” She laughed stalking toward me. Her white top billowing in the wind as she walks towards me.

She thought she was better than me stronger than me. There was a time I believed that to be true. That time had long passed.

“It was never your soul,” I spoke holding back the emotion that would not help me in this battle.

She had done many unspeakable crimes through the course of the search of the shards but this-this was unthinkable that she could fall so low to kill a child only to heal her unearthly body that had no right to walk upon the earth again.

Concentrating my energy in my hand, envisioning what I had attempted multiple times. The clang of metal rang all over mixed the sound of ripping and cutting flesh with the screams of I prayed not my loved ones. The smell of blood and poison invaded my nostrils and stung my eyes. Taking a deep breath I opened my eyes, I stared at the sword that had formed in my hand it glowed an iridescent white, glowing with holy power.

The sword slipped from Kikyo’s hand as she stepped back fear clouding her features. Her eyes were petrified she tripped over a fallen youkai and dragging herself on her hands backward. She was afraid of me, the times she had mocked and ridiculed for being weak and a child, now she cowered before me.

Standing over her, “Please have mercy think of Inuyasha.” She trembled.

“Mercy, Kikyo, what do you know of it. This is the only mercy I will give you.” I spoke as I pierced her through the chest.

There was no blood, just a shatter. Her eyes closed as she turned to dust. I looked up and something hit me full force on the chest it knocked me a few steps back. I was once again whole. Cleansing the darkness that clung to it that Kikyo had allowed to seep in.

Not stopping to revel in the kill, I quickly began fighting my way to Jaken; I picked up Rin’s small body and ran to Ah-Un. Placing her tenderly on his back, she deserved so much better. Shippo trembled as he clung to my leg. Picking him up I put him on Ah-Un without a glance I couldn’t look at his frightened face and be able to send him off.

I turned to Ah-Un,” Take them far away, and protect them.” The two heads blinked in understanding and nuzzled against my hand. I turned to Jaken, “Go now!” He nodded with teary eyes and jumped onto Ah-Un.

Watching Ah-Un carry them to safety making sure to shoot down any youkai that thought to attack them .

As they became a speck on the horizon. I looked ahead of myself Naraku stood in the centre of the battlefield fighting the two Inus. I began to make a barrier enclosing Naraku inside and began to push it outwards frying his demons as it moved. It passed over Inuyasha and healed his wounds,  Caressing Sesshomaru’s stump as it went over the Inu slower than the others, his stump started to bleed.

A youkai swung a sword at me I ducked barely missing the fatal blow. Picking up a sword from the ground I stabbed him in the neck while invading his sword.

Walking forward I pushed the barrier out; I knew my energy would recognize friend and foe.

Ripping my chunk of the Shikon Jewel off my neck I held it in my hands. I stood only feet in front of him. I hope this would work or I would be single handily condemning everyone here.

“For this Naraku, you have killed indiscriminately over and over condemning yourself to an eternity of damnation. It’s yours enjoy your damnation” Speaking as I rolled the jewel to him Greedily he picked it up and the jewel was complete.

Smiling I turned to glance at my friends, my companions, my family. My gaze lingering on a cherry blossom clothed lord.

Turning back to look at Naraku I held up my hands. Feeling the power come in waves I concentrated on the Shikon Jewel. It tried to fight against the darkness that was within Naraku.

Honing into it I began. His screams rang out reverberating across the bloody field. His pleas fell on empty ears. No one would save him, no one could.

Opening my eyes the Shikon jewel burst from his chest floating into my open palms.

Naraku’s body shrank and withered into the human body of Onigumo.

“May the dead have the mercy you did not give them,” I spoke to his degrading body.

A jolt went through me and pink light erupted.

“Hello, old friend.” Greeted a frail voice.

“Midoriko?” I whispered.

“It has been lifetimes my friend. You kept me waiting far too long. Remove this jewel from this world ,set the prophecy in motion.”

Nodding I closed my eyes. A selfless wish.

“End the suffering of my friends grant them long happy lives may it be without me in it.”

I would gladly give them up if it meant they would be happy and safe.

“This is only the beginning my friend.” She whispered as pink light shot out in all directions.

Opening my eyes, the wind swirled around me. I was falling, cool arms encircled me.

Staring into amber eyes, I whispered. “ We begin again”

The last thing I saw was magenta crescent moon before I regained to darkness.
