Sesshomaru stared absently at the vase in front of him. The dim lighting reflecting against its storm colored surface. The perfectly proportioned vase stood proudly in the corner, showing off its smooth curves that only glass could ever achieve.

Although it stood proudly it still stood alone, its beauty never to be shared with another, alone in the corner to collect dust. Perhaps. Sesshomaru mused. It is time to add flowers to it, if only for a little while.

~~~
Kagome hummed happily as she watered all of the flowers. It was her favorite part of the job, helping the flowers grow and bloom. She stopped to stare at the new batch, they were different than the usual sophisticated flowers such as the roses and orchids. These were more like common field flowers, not that they weren't beautiful just different. The colors consisted of mostly blues ranging from light to dark, dark red, and speckled with crisp white and soft yellow. It reminded her of the night sky.
It looks like it's going to rain. Sesshomaru thought as he looked up to the sky. The wind blew his silver bangs out of his honey gold eyes. His aristocratic features were slightly scrunched in contemplation as he continued walking down the pavement. He ignored the sound of the brown paper bag that held his vase as it crunched with every step he took.
He didn't know why he was doing this, the vase didn't hold much value to him other than the fact that it belonged to his late wife. Others probably would consider that sentimental but he'd rather not think of it like that. Her loss hurt him deeply since she was the only person he truly cared about.
It was her favorite vase, maybe that's why he never put flowers in it, because the flowers and the vase symbolized them, and watching the flowers die would be like watching her die again.
It's funny when he thinks about it, how the vase really does symbolize him, smooth, cold and capable of alone. And it's amazing how perfectly she symbolized a flower, mostly a rose, that sort of sophisticated beauty that still thrives on companionship, wrapping itself around his heart, even causing pain when the thorns stay embedded causing him to bleed slowly. He chuckled sardonically at his thoughts and bitter remorse.
A light drizzle started and he didn't bother wrapping his coat around the bag. He was in the lower middle class side of town. He never really bothered coming to this side because he had no need to, he himself being brought up in the upper class but for some reason he felt like coming to this side. He stopped right before a store door opened, the bell making a loud ringing noise.
A young couple exited, the girl holding a small bouquet of roses with a happy light in her eyes and the boy with a similar look. The couple stopped and looked at him then smiled and left. He watched them go with impassive features then turned his head back to the shop and looked through the window. It was a flower shop How convenient. He thought sarcastically.
The shop held the usual roses, orchids, and lilies and some other popular flowers. His eyes caught movement to the far right of the shop and he noticed a girl rearranging some flowers Must be the one who works here. He thought. Seeing how it was a fairly small shop and he didn't think there should be more than one person required.
The window was slightly fogged due to the weather but he could tell that she was in her early 20's. From what he could tell she had pale skin and a rosy complexion. She had long, wavy raven colored hair and what seemed to be dark sapphire eyes. He noticed that she was wearing a dreamy smile on her small heart shaped face.
In fact everything about her was small if she was standing next to him she would barely reach his shoulders, then again he was pretty tall standing above six feet.
He focused back onto her as she switched out some roses for what looked to be wild flowers. Odd since they didn't fit in with the rest of the flowers, kind of like her. She was more like a porcelain doll than a common flower girl. Without thinking he entered the shop.
The ringing of the bell had Kagome looking up from what she was doing. She had just finished replacing the roses with the wild flowers deciding that they deserve a good home. People probably would think she was weird since flowers die easily but in her mind that's not what mattered, anything alive deserves a chance to live and to make other people happy, no matter how short a life.
Sesshomaru cleared his throat bringing her out of her thoughts. She blushed slightly at her rudeness. " Hi sir, how can I help you"? He brought out his vase. "I'm merely looking for some flowers to put into this." He answered with a deep velvet voice that caused tiny shivers go down her spine. She smiled and nodded before replying "Feel free to look around and don't hesitate to ask questions." He only nodded before walking away to look. She went to do her own work but kept casting curious glances at him.
She could tell that he came from the higher class by the way he was dressed and was curious to know why he was down here. He was an attractive man, probably around his late 20's or early 30's. She noticed how he kept glancing at the wild flowers. Probably trying to figure out why they're in here. She thought with mirth.
Finally he came back over "Have you made your choice?" she asked politely, he nodded his head and pointed. "Those wild flowers please." She was slightly shocked expecting him to pick out a rose or something of that nature. Still she smiled and responded cheerfully. "Right away sir!"
She took the vase and set the flowers and some water into it. He paid her and she handed him the vase. "Thank you for your purchase, that's a beautiful vase by the way." He smirked slightly. "Beautiful flowers". She smiled back a thank you and a please come again someday. A ghost of a smile crossed Sesshomaru's lips "Perhaps I shall." And with that he was gone. Kagome stared at the door a little while longer before smiling a soft happy smile.
