I love it when Sesshomaru has these moments of realization that Kagome is human, rather than youkai, so he needs to use a different approach. This scene was a very nice break after the more negative intensity of the last few chapters.

Trouble: Ayame's grandfather and/or one of those Revolution factions, particularly the youkai ones, wouldn't want any ways to extend human lives or to see a youkai/extended-life-human pairing.

It took me some serious contemplation time to figure out Kouga a couple of chapters ago... for this one I'm putting my guess in writing. Something in me says it's Rin.

It's wonderful that Papa is able to give the swords to his sons directly, while he's still alive, and not have either one feel resentment over it. :)
