You can't escape the past by sam

Chapter 1

I seem to like military or institution themes. I've always found military themes interesting though. The idea or the initial situation just popped into my head the other day and I quite liked it. I'm not entirely sure where it's going to go though. But I hope you like it!

Kagome sighed for the millionth time that day. She had been laying in bed reflecting on just how she had ended up in this situation.

---

She had spent most of her youth fighting to defeat Naraku. They had traveled around Japan fighting demons, gathering shards, searching for and evil hanyou, and in the end where had it left her? They had eventually defeated him, at the cost of much life, and had made a wish to destroy the jewel.

Of course she had been sent back to her time, her duty in the past apparently done.

Left in a world she had grown apart from, with poor grades in high school, a lot of absences, and many horrific experiences she could mention to no one, she was forced to try to fit in and make a place for herself.

There had been a time, when she first came back to her own time where she had been desperate to find a demon, any demon at all. But besides a couple low level demons and some spirits she hadn't found any. This told her that it was possible for demons to exist in her time, no powerful ones seemed to be around however. Research into herself and her friends had not yielded any useful information either. Broken, and disappointed, she had eventually given up. She still trained her powers and still occasionally sent out her aura to search for demons but it was no longer in earnest.

She had blundered the rest of the way through high school, and not having the grades for college or university she had begun looking for a job.

She had found one of course, as an underpaid, overworked, clerk at a grocery store. While helping her family with the shrine. But shortly after she had settled into her job a sort of melancholy had fallen over her. The sort that surrounds you like a fog and clouds everything else out of your life.

Eventuially, Her family had urged her to quit and find something, anything, that would bring her back to her old, cheery, self. Even just taking care of the shrine would have been enough. Her wages certainly helped a lot, but they could do without.

It was then she truly realized that she missed the excitement of the warring states era. Battle had left its mark on her and she could ever really go back to an "ordinary" life.

So she changed her cover story from "sickly" to "rogue", implying that all the school she had missed had been spent hanging around unsavoury characters, which wasn't entirely untrue.

she had made that difficult decision 10 years ago now, when she had decided to join the army.
