Tale of a Thousand Nights by Panther

The Beginning

Lady Kikyo of the East was not only known for being one of the most winsome women of her time, but also one of the best-travelled. When her doting father had announced his intention to marry her off to one of the men of his kingdom, the Princess protested, for she knew each and every one of the men of his court for the boorish, gold-lusting fools they were.

Instead, she requested to travel in search of an adequate husband, for surely in the vast lands of China, or the exotic isles below Nippon, or even beyond the ocean there lay a man worthy of her, his precious daughter.

The king reluctantly agreed, and so, with an escort of at least thirty guards, the young princess set forth.

She saw many wonders, and met many suitors; tall and short, wide and slender, wise and foolish, handsome and ugly. Some poured riches at her feet, while others attempted to impress her with their extensive knowledge.

But each and every one of them failed to impress the princess, for, since some time along in her journey, she had eyes only for her most trusted royal guard, the brash Inuyasha.

She no longer travelled to find a husband, but rather to postpone her homecoming and wedding and find a way in which to make her father accept her choice; for Inuyasha was a hanyou, half-human and half-demon, and was considered little more than dirt under the boots of the nobles of both races.

And finally, being assailed by gifts that were courtesy of an unaccountably rich Maharajah, she found her answer.
