“Most of these treasures have been passed down from generations of priests from across Japan,” Shizuka-san’s muffled voice carries into the room. “Although most of this holds more spiritual value than monetary, I am so grateful we’re moving a lot of it; we have had a few thieves strike the shrine.”

Fingertips skim intricate carvings; she freezes as heat streaks through her hands.
