Engagements

5 years since he unmated her. Sesshomaru had been rash. They fought, he got tired of catering to her, so he did something he knew she would feel in her very bones.

"I want a divorce."

He had got through it. If you called "getting through" spending every night drinking away his regrets.

No, he couldn't beg for her forgiveness and woo her back. His pride didn't allow it. But now? Pride was a myth, a thing of the past for him. He didn't even have a scrap of self-worth.

He didn't know why, but he was heading into a loveless marriage, only done because he was lonely and missed Kagome. He was marrying Kagura. Yes, she was beautiful, but those cold eyes held no love, only greed. Kagome's eyes were filled with love and faith.

He wanted her back so much, but he knew he could never even touch her again.

Kagome stared at the TV news broadcast. So, he was getting remarried.

"Taisho Sesshomaru has publicly annouced his engagement with Onigumo Kagura, years after his divorce with Higurashi Kagome. Will they survive the ordeals, or be ripped to shreds like his former marriage? The wedding will be public, held at the Taishou Family Gardens on June 18. We wish them a prosperous and love-filled marriage."

June 18. How ironic. Their "breakup" anniversary. She didn't understand what she did wrong.

Tear-filled blue eyes gazed at the screen.

Brokenly, she whispered, "Why, Sesshomaru? We loved each other. You promised!"

"I will love you until the end of time itself, koi."

She would go to their wedding. Kagome knew she wouldn't regret seeing him one last time.

June 18th

Kagome did the best she could to conceal her pale, thin face and the bruises beneath her eyes. She put on bronzer and some foundation. When she was satisfied, she threw on a light blue gauzy sundress and headed out.

He was still breathtakingly beautiful. Her heart throbbed, she smiled sadly. His mate-to-be, what was her name, Kagura, was also stunning, in a traditional silvery white Japanese wedding kimono. She said warmly, "Ah, Sesshomaru-sama, Kagura-sama, congratulations on your marriage. I hope you do well." Kagura ignored her, knowing that she was Kagome, the infamous ex-wife.

Sesshomaru just stared at her with those honeyed orbs.

Her obviously fake smile faltered for a moment, then returned. "Well, I guess I'll see you two lovebirds around. Goodbye, Good luck!" She rushed away.

She was trying much too hard.

I was shocked when he saw her. The years have not used her well.

His youkai vision showed him dark bags under her beautiful eyes, covered in layers of concealer, foundation and whatnot. Her whole face was pale and thin, and she was so skinny. It looked like she was a stick instead of a living, breathing, human being. She smiled weakly.

"Ah, Sesshomaru-sama, Kagura-sama, congratulations on your marriage. I hope you do well."

Kagura, being as stuck up as she was raised to be, turned up her nose and ignored her. I could just stare at her.

What have I done?
