Just Say Yes

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha.

He guessed every male out there was programmed to lie. Most of the time it was usually small white lies, but they were numerous. In the past year or so, that ungodly habit became ingrained in him; he couldn’t stop, not because he wanted to lie, but because a small, teensy-weensy white lie would make her happy.

He liked it when she wasn’t angry.

He sat on a sofa outside the dressing room, glancing at his watch every five seconds as he waited for his girlfriend to appear from the fitting room. They have been in the store for the past hour and he was getting a bit ticked off with everyone staring at him and ogling. It was highly annoying and he wished Kagome could just hurry up and finish trying on that dress.

Another glance at his watch and it read three-thirty.

He placed the bags on the ground, having them close to his feet as he leaned back, sighing quietly. His eyes traced the paneled ceiling, feeling utterly bored and irritated from the music.

“Kagome.” He called out, ready to leave the feminine store.

“One sec! Almost done!” Six minutes passedhe was counting the secondswhen she finally exited the room, peeking around the corner at him. She stepped into his view, her hands on her hips as strutted towards him.

It would have been sexy if it wasn’t for the fact that it showed off every single curve, even the tiny unflattering ones.

“So, what do you think?” She gave a twirl and swung her hips, trying to entice him, but all he was focused on was her midsection.

Was that there before? He pondered in his mind, lucky that Kagome was preoccupied with her strut, not noticing that he wasn’t paying any attention to the white, skin-tight dress she picked out. Now his mind was racing, his mouth ready to blurt out the first thing that came to him, but he held back, not wanting to suffer the consequences.

“Well Sesshomaru?” She impatiently asked, her bare foot tapping the ground. “Do you like it or no?”

He rather answer any other question in the world except for this one, it was a trick question. If he said yes, he would be forced to go in public with her with that dress, but if he said no, she would undoubtedly become angry and force him to explain why he didn’t like it. It was a lose-lose situation for him. He wished he could remain silent, but he would be giving her his answer, which would be a no in her mind.

“When was the last time you exercised?” He instead said, internally chiding himself for blurting out what he didn’t want to say. Now they would be arguing in public, something he didn’t like, but Kagome’s temper was like a tornado, sweeping everything inside her rage. Soon the women in the shop would be looking at the scene, glaring at him for telling the truth. He tried walking away once, that plan backfired immediately and horribly.

“Excuse me?” Kagome indignantly exclaimed, her brows furrowed deeply. “Did you just call me fat?”

Sesshomaru sighed heavily, too weary from this day. “No Kagome, I did not say that.”

“Then what were you trying to say?” Her glare was dangerous and he was feeling the heat. He wanted to avoid this fight, but that seemed inevitable as he opened his mouth and said something he wasn’t suppose to say. Maybe he should walk away, she wouldn’t get passed the detectors at the entrance of the store in that dress; it would force her to quickly change and then run after him. However, that gave him plenty of time to escape, but that wouldn’t solve the problem, it would definitely make it worse. But as her blue-eyed gaze grew darker, the plan was starting to sound very appealing.

“It didn’t mean anything.” Sesshomaru quickly said. “Are you done trying on clothes?” He asked, trying to diverged the topic into safer waters. It was futile, Kagome was stubborn, she would not give up the subject until she got what she desired, which, at the moment, was his explanation.

“Don’t try to change the subject Sesshomaru, did you just implied that I was fat?” Screaming was a last resort when it came to Kagome, she would calmly talk first. It was a tactic that tricked Sesshomaru many times when he wasn‘t paying attention, making him believe that she wasn’t angry at all. When he continued his nonchalance, that was when her voice tightened and escalated.

Another sigh escaped his lips, whatever answer he gave to her, the punishment would be the same. But he liked sleeping in their bed and not on that leather couch which gets uncomfortable during a hot night. It didn’t matter at this point, he would still be sleeping on the godforsaken couch after he made that comment about her lack of exercise.

“You’re making this into a bigger deal than it is, Kagome.”

“That’s bullshit and you know it, I can’t believe you called me fat.” Her fists were curled, her feet spaced evenly as she got into her dominating stance.

He wanted to groan, she was doing everything in her power to make him look like the bad guy. He was trying to save her from becoming humiliated in public with that dress. “Stop putting words in my mouth, I didn’t say that.”

“You don’t have to say it, I can see it on your face!” Kagome pointed at him. Sesshomaru quickly looked around, seeing the other women glancing at them with curiosity in their eyes. Nosy bitches.

There was no point prolonging this, it would go on forever at this rate and he was ready to go home. He would endure any punishment she would dish out with some male dignity. He wouldn‘t mind sleeping on that damn couch. He tightened his lips, his eyes resigned, but determined. “That dress makes you look fat and I refuse to go in public with you if you choose to wear it.”

It was a piercing silence as the attendant from behind them stared at them with large eyes, her mouth gapping at the words that escaped his mouth. Maybe he should have made his facial features a little more expressive and his tone a little less monotone, maybe that would have made Kagome not stare at him with murder in her eyes. That wouldn’t matter, calling her fat was enough to warrant that look. He reasoned with himself.

“You will be staying at your mother’s house until I let you back home.” With that said, she went back to the dressing room, a loud slam of the door resounded in the space, her dramatic temper showcasing itself once more.

She just issued the worst punishment ever, staying at his mother’s house. He would rather put up with sleeping on the sticky leather couch for a month straight than endure his mother’s nitpicking attitude for even an hour.

He ran his hand over his face, actually groaning in misery.

He should have said yes.
