Disclaimer: Though it saddens me to say it, I don’t own anything relating to Takahashi-sensei’s Inuyasha. However, the plot and/or ideas of this drabble series do belong to me.

A/N: Alright. I’m mostly caught up with prompts and such. Sorry for all of the update bombs. ;) Update 8 of 8.

Chapter 88: Insult

What had started out as a simple rescue mission had turned into an all-out brawl.

Sesshoumaru grunted, catching the fist of the leader of the men that had been harassing Kagome. Having heard the leering remarks toward his wife, he had exchanged a few words with the group before one of the more psychotic-looking males had rushed forward, intending to strike his head. Avoiding his clumsy punch had been easy, knocking him out had been even easier. However, the sight of their unconscious comrade on the ground had stirred the other members into action.

A crowd had since drawn around them, shouting in dismay.

Two against six? Those odds were certainly fair. Not to mention the fact that he and Kagome were fighting in yukatas of all things. The occasional breeze was mighty unpleasant.

Sesshoumaru chanced a glance at his wife, relieved that she appeared to be unharmed. Her opponent, the fat man that had assaulted her earlier, was sporting a bloody nose and a swollen eye, and was… crying? Now that was just sad. Catching his eye, she flashed him a quick smile before leading her enemy in a merry chase around the other men, dodging their attempts at grabbing her.

Oi!” Sesshoumaru’s arm jerked forward, and his gaze swung back to cobalt hues. “You gonna hold my hand all day?”

Squeezing his fist until he heard a satisfying crack and a howl of pain, Sesshoumaru replied, “Hn.” He snorted softly and stepped back. “Your hand is useless. Leave now.”

Hell no!” The younger male threw out a desperate kick, the bottom of his geta just barely grazing Sesshoumaru’s chest. His braid spun around in a wide arc before slipping down his shoulder. Sweat marred his brow. “I ain’t leaving till I teach your bitch a lesson!”

The silver-haired man suddenly growled, the bone-chilling sound erupting from his chest. He regarded Bankotsu with red-rimmed eyes, smirking at the fear that tainted his scent.

W-what the hell are you? You’re not–” And then, faster than he could see, Sesshoumaru appeared before him, gripping his arm and flipping him over, the vertigo making him sick. His back hit the ground with startling force, and a gasp left his throat. The smile on Sesshoumaru’s face was anything but friendly as he twisted his arm, dislocating it from his shoulder. He could only manage a small moan when Sesshoumaru dropped to the balls of his feet beside him.

I would kill you and your men for touching what is mine,” he said. “But I will not because she would not approve. So appreciate my mercy. I will not hesitate to hunt you down should you decide to do otherwise.” Sesshoumaru straightened, glaring at him. “You should have fled when you learned of her loyalty to me,” he muttered, walking away to retrieve his wife.

Maru-kun!” Kagome grinned, jumping behind him. “I think I gave `em a run for their money!” she told him, pointing toward the five men that were staggering on their feet. “They’re really slow!”

Sesshoumaru patted her head and draped an arm around her waist. “You did well. You are fine?”

Aside from their manhandling, I’m just peachy!” Her eyes widened at Bankotsu’s prone form. “Is he alright?”

He will survive.”

Oh… Okay.”
