Chapter 1  -Safety in Allies Arms-

Her feet hurt as the twigs and rocks beneath her bare feet cut them up.  She ran as far away as she could.  The blur of green, brown, and various other colors hardly registered her vision as she ran away from the palace she had just escaped.  The shifting bundles in a big silk pouch slung around her shoulder and waist with her arms securely around them.  She had no protection for herself only the two babies she held.

As she heard the sound of thunder and felt it through the ground she felt her fear spike.  Her pace quickened feeling breathless as she ran, the adrenaline that filled her body the thing that kept her going.

She kept her aura and scent hidden.  They were going to kill her.  If they caught her they would take her children and keep them for themselves and do Kami knows what to them.  She would not let that happen.  She would live, wait, and survive for them.

"Lady Kagome!"  the echo of the voice had her skid to a stop.  She looked into the distance and behind her on a black stallion was her friend, Miroku.  His black hair loose around his neck and blowing in the wind.  He was covered in dirt and had cuts around his arms.  He pulled at the reins and made his way towards her.  Dismounting the animal he raced to her giving her a soft embrace and glanced at the two smaller forms.  "We must hurry.  They are killing all and any who live in the palace.  If they find you who knows what would happen."

Kagome nodded and handed him her babies before turning to mount the horse.  She had not registered the pain and soreness of her body until she lifted herself up and sat atop the beautiful creature.  She held her arms out and took the wrapped bundle as he got behind her and grabbed the reins.

Their bodies bounced with ever step the stallion took, Miroku was determined to keep his friend alive.  They were both tired he could feel Kagome's aura pulse slowly around her children to keep them calm and asleep.  Now at a walking pace he sighed in relief they were out of the Western Lands and into the Eastern where their allies awaited them.  Kagome straightened in his hold and he spotted what had her attention,  wolves.

The horse paused and jumped back in fright, but Miroku helt the reins tight and patted the creature, soothing it.  The wolves were familiar and friendly as they walked beside them to guide them to their caves.  He was grateful, and finally let his tired body relax though they still stayed on guard.

They stopped at the waterfalls and dismounted.  The rocks were slippery as they followed a few wolves, others staying behind at the entrance.  Miroku held his horses reins and followed Kagome cautiously.  The wolves led them into a wet cave filled with various other holes.  Kagome walked with confidence knowing that the wolves were her friends as they had been for years.  Her other family that she told stories of.  They walked to one of the black holes in the cave walls.  Miroku stopped to pull at Kagomes torn sleeve halting her movements.

"Is this wise Lady Kagome?"  He had to wonder what was in the dark abyss and grew tense as the wolves around him growled.

"Oh hush!"  She said to the wolves earning her pitiful whines.  "Of course Miroku I wouldn't put us in danger.  And how many times have I told you, it's just Kagome.  We're friends."  She turned back and walked slowly into the dark hole Miroku and company behind her.  Their hands gently leaning on the rough walls as it guided them to the small light in front of them.  The light grew brighter as they reached the opening.  The grass was green with flowers of various color surrounding the underground valley as a river and lake flowed through and under the walls.  Specks of shadows were all around as was the spots where the moons light shined through the holes in the cave ceiling above them.  Miroku's purple gaze widened at the beauty that was hidden inside a cave and wondered how Kagome and the wolves knew of such a place.

The Eastern Prince Koga and a few of his soldiers and friends made their way over to the two.  Miroku relaxed and saw Kagome do the same from the corner of his eye.  Miroku had only met the male a few times in meetings or dinners at the Western Palace, and enjoyed his company.  He cared just as deeply for Kagome as he did.  He knew the demon and his tribe were Kagome's family as well.

"Kagome, Miroku," Koga greeted with open arms and swept the two into a gentle embrace.  His blue eyes filled with relief and concern at their poorly dressed appearance.  "Come inside, we'll find you two some proper clothes and warm furs for the little ones.  You," he said pointing to a soldier," take the horse to the stables."  Koga turned and lead the both of them into more caves.

"This place has gotten bigger,"  Kagome said as they walked into the caves lit by torches.  Koga nodded in response.  Kagome's midnight blue eyes watched his tail swish back and forth as he lead them to rooms.

"This will be your room Kagome," he said as he moved the fur door to the side and gestured for her to enter.  "It's filled with many necessities for you and your young."  He closed the fur and walked across the hall and instructed the same for Miroku leaving both of them alone for the time being.

Kagome sat on the piles of deer fur huddled in the corned of the room and gently unwrapped her two sleeping babies.  She turned to the wooden chest and pulled out a familiar kimono staring at it for moments before dressing.  She turned back and pulled out two small fur clothes and smiled before realizing she hadn't smiled in a long time.  She dressed the two warmly and securely before sitting beside them.

"Kagome,"  she heard the muffled voice of Miroku through the fur.  "Are you decent?"  She sighed deeply before replying 'yes.'  Brushing her hands over the dark and light hair of her sleeping babies.

Both Koga and Miroku entered and she realized she hadn't sensed eithers aura.  Must be more tired than I thought, she thought before shifting her body to the men.

"We need to talk about what happened,"  Koga said in a serious tone and she nodded in agreement.

"I know,"  she said.  "I heard Naraku took over your lands before coming straight over and taking ours.  It was a surprise attack on us.  What about you?"

Koga nodded, "the same for us.  I, nor my brothers and soldiers, could smell him and his demons before they attacked.  I think it's that damn barrier of his.  He took half of my people.  Him and his Wind Witch."  Koga's facial features darkened and he bared his fangs at the memory.  "We had retreated here.  We thank Kami when we went back and found survivors. How did you two escape?"

Miroku threw in his two cents.  "Many of our people escaped through underground stairways.  They know where to go from there and we will go there when we can."  He glanced at Kagome and saw her nod.  "However, Kanna was after Kagome and the babies, but I used my wind tunnel as a distraction on many of the demons so they could get away.  Most of the walls had come down so we had to escape by the cracks in them in the back of the palace."

They all sighed and thought deep.  Naraku was their greatest enemy and had taken over their lands and whoever else's he could.

"However long it takes,"  Kagome started, her voice filled with determination.  "We'll take back what was and is rightfully ours.  Have you sent word to your allies Koga?"  She watched him nod.  "Good, Miroku we need to do the same as soon as possible.  When we hear word we will plan and gather more if needed.  Naraku will be deafeated."

Both men smiled and nodded before leaving Kagome and the children to rest.

Miroku sat against the cave wall on the mountain of fur.  He had long ago given up on meditation and let his thoughts run their course.  His main though, however, was his worry for Kagome.  Her mate, his master, Lord Sesshomaru had disappeared nearly a year ago in a battle against Naraku.  He did not know he left behind a pregnant mate.  Miroku had served as his consultant for the human and holy races of the world.  Many monks and priestesses objected to the thought until the Legendary Shikon Miko mated the Western Lord and still obtained her powers.  They were still growing and he had helped train Kagome until the loss of her mate.

She did not give up, only put her training on hold and took role as the Lady of the West and filled in for Sesshomaru.  She held onto that hope and still did and Miroku knew that it might be her downfall.  The people still believed in her and he knew that she would take her role in defeating Naraku for taking her mate from her, but he knew that the burden and weight of it all would bring her down at some point.

He closed his eyes once again before succumbing to the darkness of sleep he needed.

He and many of the demon servants, healers, brothers, and sisters had heard her cry that night.  The scent of her tears were undetectable and he knew she was trying to hide it from them and was doing a poor job of it.  He assumed it was her distracted mind.

Koga clenched his clawed fingers and went out into the night to stand guard with a few of his other men.  They had injured women, children, and men to watch over and they would let no one hurt them again.  The wolves guarding the outside of the caves were his best and reliable if any danger lurked by they would be ready.
