Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Kagome looked up when she heard the door to her boss’ office open.  Out stepped Sesshomaru Inutaisho.  She sighed, and pushed her glasses further up her nose.  Kagome had worked for Sesshomaru for over two years now.

Over the past two years she’d grown to love him.  Her friend Sango often asked her why, sine he never looked her way twice unless it was about business.  Every week he had a date with some gorgeous woman that Kagome knew she could never compare with.

She hadn’t ever really dated, and after meeting Sesshomaru, never really wanted to.  She looked down again to finish writing a note in a file and closed it when he came up to her desk.

“I want these done by Monday, Kagome,” he dropped a pile of folders on her desk.

“Hai,” Kagome said bowing her head.  “You have plans for the weekend, Sir?”

“Yes, per usual my stupid half-brother has set me up with some dim-wit of a woman,” he pinched his nose in annoyance, Kagome knew, because she’d seen him do it so often.  “I wouldn’t mind a weekend to myself for once,” he caught himself, realizing that he’d revealed too much of himself.

Kagome found that he did that quite frequently with her, to cover the mess-up he asked, “You have any plans?”

Kagome shrugged her shoulders, and motioned to the files on her desk, “Well, get these done, and hang out with my friend Sango this weekend.”  She bit her tongue to keep herself from saying that she was handing in her resignation on Monday.

“Well, at least one of us will enjoy their weekend, have a good one,” he smirked and walked past her to the elevator.

She didn’t say anything, and didn’t think that he would expect her to.  Sesshomaru was like that, standoffish and stoic.  Kagome knew that it was something that had been ingrained into him since he was a child.  But she’d gotten used to reading the signs, of reading his tells when he was getting upset with someone on the phone or in a meeting.  When he wanted her to stay late to work on a project that was due the next day, but didn’t want to keep her at the office against her will, if she had other plans.

Unfortunately, she never really had other plans, and would jump at the chance to work late with him.  He always fascinated her of how he worked.  After two years, earning money and saving it, and learning how a business ran from Sesshomaru, she decided to open her own advertising firm.  There were differences between her dream and the corporate world that Sesshomaru worked in, but she’d figure it out.

Kagome worked on the files for another hour and got a third of them done.  She picked up the rest, and put them in her briefcase.  She tightened her messy pony tail and got into her coat.  She wondered what Sango wanted to do this weekend.  Her friend had said she had made plans for them this weekend, and seemed very excited about it when she’d talked to her on the phone the other night.

Kagome picked up her briefcase and took the elevator.  She said good-bye to Frank the security guard on the main level, got in her car and drove home.  Since it was after seven there wasn’t much traffic.

She got home and put her things on the table and went to the fridge to get something to eat, nothing looked good.  She picked up the phone and ordered pizza.  Kagome sat down in front of the TV after the pizza arrived and watched a romantic movie.  By the end of the movie she was in tears, wanting that kind of love, longing for a man to look at her like that.  She went to the bathroom and splashed water on her face.  She looked at herself, she wore glasses, had messy hair.  Kagome looked down at her clothes and knew she didn’t have that great of a fashion sense.  She sighed, she knew why she never gotten a date; she wasn’t the most approachable.  She tended to go more for comfortable than stylish.

Why would she ever think that Sesshomaru would go for her?  He had way too many good looking women falling all over him.

At that moment he had a great looking woman falling all over him, and Sesshomaru wasn’t the least bit amused.  He stared at his half-witted brother who didn’t bother to tell him that he’d made dates for them tonight and hadn’t even bothered to tell him.  Then he had the gall to call at the last minute and say he was bringing them around to his house!

InuYasha had hung up before Sesshomaru could tell him otherwise, and he stood there fuming at the dead receiver in his hand.  Just one night he would like to have some time to himself.

He’d been going out on these dates for years now, dates that his brother would concoct.  His father pressured Sesshomaru to get married and the pressure came through InuYasha.  His father knew that he had a soft side for his younger half-brother.  Sesshomaru could never understand why, but when they were pups, Sesshomaru would take care of him whenever he’d get into trouble, and that was quite often.

Now Sesshomaru had this dumb woman hanging on him, literally, and he wanted to scrap her off of him; feeling disgusted by her groping hands.

“All right, enough,” he said, almost yelling. The three stopped and stared at him, “I want everyone out, now!”  The two women jumped at his raised voice and quickly got up from the table and left.  InuYasha stayed.

“I don’t understand,” Sesshomaru said, “Don’t ever set me up with a woman like that again!  Now, don’t bother me for the rest of the weekend!  I think I deserve that!”

InuYasha jumped a little at that, and nodded, leaving the same way the two women had.  Sesshomaru got up from the table and walked to the living room.  He sat down on the couch and rubbed his hands down his face in annoyance at his brother.  He wanted to find someone to marry as much as his father wanted to, but he was tired of these blind stupid dates!  His brother could never even get an intelligent woman to come.

He slid his hand through his silver hair, he wasn’t even sure he knew of an intelligent attractive woman.  All of the women that he’d worked with were business women, all formal.  Yes, he’d had the occasional affair with them, but they wanted a career over family.  Sesshomaru was in his thirties and finally wanted to settle down, and start a family.  He wanted something more permanent, a woman that complimented him.  He let out a long breath, but where was he going to find someone like that?
