As the sun climbed higher in the sky, his headache grew stronger. This morning marked the fifth day in a row that he had woken to greet the dawn with a fierce aching in his temples. However, today it felt as if the pain was triple the intensity of the previous mornings. For the first time in years he was unable to holdback a small grunt of pain as he climbed out of bed and headed downstairs to where he could hear his mate fussing about in the kitchen.

Taking a seat in one of the aged wooden chairs in the small breakfast nook across from the main portion of the cooking area, he leaned back and closed his eyes. The normally welcome aroma of freshly brewed coffee only managed to cause another jolt of pain to assault his already sensitive senses.

Noticing the unnatural pallor of his skin from across the room, Kagome set the pot of coffee she had been holding on the counter and regarded Sesshoumaru with worried eyes.

"Are you alright? You look horrible."

The only response she received to her inquiry was the slight cracking open of one pale eyelid, as he acknowledged that he had heard her.

"It's that headache still, isn't it?"

                "Hn."

"Don't, 'Hn' me, Mister! If you would stop being so stubborn, you could have been over it days ago!"

Kagome tapped her foot impatiently against the tiled floor, her hands on her hips and her eyes narrowed in annoyance. If it wasn't for the pain in his head, he would have found her current state endearing - but at this moment, all he could do was muster up annoyance.

"Seriously Sesshoumaru, what harm can come from trying it?"

                "No."

                "Grandpa swears it really works!"

"Your grandfather also swears that there is a demon in his toaster."

                "Sesshou-"

"No." Cutting her off, Sesshoumaru hoped that he had finally settled the matter with his equally stubborn mate.  There was nothing she could possibly say to make him agree.

"Try it, or I'll invite Inuyasha and his boys over for lunch."

Anything, except for that. He knew she would go through with it as well.

Kagome knew she had beat him, and grinned in triumph.

Fifteen minutes later and Sesshoumaru found himself propped up in bed - a blue bandana tied tightly around his head, compressing freshly sliced potato wedges against his forehead.
