His Heart of Gold and Silver by Mamiyya

Background

Kagome Higurashi had been living on her grandfather's shine her whole life. She felt it would be very hard to leave the one place she loved so much.

There were so many memories. So many things she loved about the place. Some of the best an worse were of her best friend and now ex boyfriend, Inuyasha Masaru.

Inuyasha and Kagome had been the best of friends since the day he fell of the Goshinboku in October 1992. She was four then, and ha been already learning the ways of the miko. She'd been praying under the Goshinboku and all of a sudden heard this rustling in the tree above her. She looked up and saw a wave of the most beautiful white almost silver hair. Next she'd seen a pair of golden orbs staring down at her. She'd stared at them nonstop as if she'd been put into a trance of some sort, and would have all but stood stalk still had it not been for the figure in the tree falling to the ground and losing his balance.

Kagome giggled softly and the now very disgruntled boy huffed before getting up and facing her. Once he turned around, Kagome's giggles ha stopped immediately. On top of the boy's head were a pair of fluffy white ears that shown the same color as his hair. This was when Kagome realized this boy was a demon, no...a hanyou.

Now, Kagome was well aware that in history humans and demons were not usually allowed to commune with each other, because demons were so powerful and dangerous to humans, but this boy didn't look harmful at all. Besides , he wasn't fully demon, so what could possibly happen. She held out her hand and smiled.

"Hi, I'm Kagome Higurashi." her bubbly voice alleged. The boy looked at her hand for a second before reaching out slowly and grabbing onto her hand firmly as if it were his life span.

"Inuyasha...Masaru." he said quietly.

Because it was the 21st century an demons and humans were now merging their knowledge of the world together instead of tearing each other apart, Inuyasha and Kagome were able to remain friends. Kagome's family had taken Inuyasha in like he was their own. Kagome's mother Shiori, her grandfather Jai, and her younger brother Souta were the three who lived in the shrine along with Kagome. Her younger sister Keade and older sister Kikyou both lived with their father in the Americas.

Inuyasha's family was more complicated than that, Kagome had learned.

His father, InuTaisho Masaru was a great inu tai youkai that ruled over the Western Lands in the ancient feudal era, and even after the wars and after times had changed he'd still been one of the greatest tai youkai in Japan. He'd owned one of the largest broadband businesses from Japan to America, and was very well known in all Western and Central Regions of the world. It was very hard to believe that he'd just die one day.

Inuyasha had been about nine at the time and his brother Sesshomaru Masaru was thirteen. Inuyasha's mother, Izayoi and stepmother, Nakeda had been reporting dead, without a trace as to who killed them. It was the weirdest thing. No one, not even the top detectives in the region could figure out who'd done it. It was a true mystery unsolved.

Inuyasha had become quite by the whole incident, of course who wouldn't after losing their parents. But the person who was the most effected by it had been Sesshomaru. After hearing about what'd happened, he'd basically become mute. He hadn't spoken a word to anyone, not even his own brother. After a couple of weeks, Sesshomaru all but disappeared as well. Inuyasha was put into the care of the family friend Myouga, which was great seeing as he'd be able to stay near Kagome.

Inuyasha was once again saddened by his family's disappearance and death's so closely together, and Kagome had become even more of his lifeline. The two did everything together. He'd loved her as a best friend, and she'd loved him as something much deeper.

By the time her freshman year and his sophomore year rolled around, Kagome could feel herself in love than she wanted to allow. When she finally confessed her love to Inuyasha, he'd told her that he'd felt the same way and the two got together as a couple. Everything was great until Kagome's sister Kikyou came to live with them in the shrine. Kikyou was a year older than Kagome but the same age as Inuyasha.

Kikyou had automatically developed a crush for Inuyasha, and Kagome automatically developed a fear for her sister's feelings. Kikyou was easily more grazed and approached than Kagome because she was older, prettier, and overall better rounded than her younger sister. She was even a greater miko than Kagome was. This had been the biggest threat of all, her perfection. Kagome had told Kikyou off the back that her and Inuyasha were an item and Kikyou promised to stay away from him.

Unfortunately, Inuyasha couldn't stay away from her. Whenever he'd come over, Kikyou was his new, older, more matured friend, while Kagome was his second rate, young and "undeveloped" girlfriend. Whenever he came by the house, he ended up hanging out with Kikyou for hours before spending only a couple of minutes only hugging and kissing Kagome.

Kagome felt as if her sister was tearing her life apart, and it'd all finally came crashing to pieces on her head one day towards the end of her junior year. She'd been waiting on Inuyasha to drive her home, and he hadn't showed up on time. She'd waited for about a half hour before deciding to search the school for him. She'd been everywhere but couldn't find a trace of him. Finally she decided to check the back hallway. She rounded the corner and stopped dead in her tracks at the sight she'd seen playing before her eyes.

Inuyasha had Kikyou's legs wrapped around his waist, her skirt raised, and his mouth attaching itself to every inch of her body. Kikyou had been the first to see her and then Inuyasha. She couldn't move her body. It wasn't listening to her command to run. She could feel something inside of her ripping itself in half, and it hurt. It hurt like hell, but it wouldn't stop, and she couldn't move. She stared at those golden orbs, the same one's she'd stare into with so much love and compassion. She now stared onto them with a plead for all of this to have been a bad dream.

"Kagome..." she heard Inuyasha's voice as he moved closer to her. She stepped back as he neared.

"No..."she said barely under a whisper. "It's okay...I'm...okay..." she turned and left, but Inuyasha still saw the single tear that fell from her eye. It was only one of the many that fell. It rained that night. It would rain until her tears stopped. And her tears would fall until it ceased to rain.

Over the years, Kagome had not only forgiven her sister and ex but had also accepted their relationship. Inuyasha would forever be her best friend and Kikyou would forever be her sister no matter what. She was still sad yes, and she still loved and wanted Inuyasha, but she would never have him.

And now she was leaving. Three years later she was leaving the place she'd experienced so much.

Goodbye Tokyo.

Goodbye Japan.

Goodbye Inuyasha.
