Happy Birthday, Kagome! by MomoDesu

Happy Birthday, Kagome!

A/N: A short short written for Moon Surf for her birthday in 2007. I just noticed I hadn't shared it here!

----------

Rin enjoyed being with 'the filthy hanyou' and his group of friends. All in all she couldn't understand why Sesshoumaru-sama called Inuyasha so filthy. He was rather clean if she said so. 'The miko' she rather enjoyed. Kagome-sama was super nice to her and gave her treats. The monk and demon slayer Rin still wasn't sure about, but if the slayer was Kohaku's big sister she couldn't be too bad.

Right now she was excited about Kagome-sama's birthday. Shippou-kun had told her all about birthday celebrations, with cake and games. Would Kagome-sama have a birthday celebration?

For a week Shippou had talked about Kagome-sama's birthday, telling Rin about everything from the cake to gifts, even to Kagome's silly tradition of primping like a princess. Rin was excited, and planned on giving her big sister figure a crown of flowers so she would really feel like a princess on 'her day'.

"Rin-chan! Come look!"

Rin poked her head out of Kaede's hut. Kagome was standing outside with a villager playing with a little shaggy puppy, smiling and beckoning for her to come out and play.

With an excited squeal Rin shot out of the hut, over to her friend.

"I wouldn't mind a puppy of my own," Kagome said, highly doubting that Rin was paying attention.

A sneaky smile spread over Rin's face. If that was what Kagome-sama wanted for her birthday, then Rin would get it for her!

-----

"Please, Sesshoumaru-sama!" Rin pleaded, tugging roughly on Sesshoumaru's newly regenerated arm. "It would make me really happy!"

Sesshoumaru stared down at the child who was wrinkling his sleeve. There were a few options when it came to her request: either go back to the Western Lands where they were safe or just do it here and risk angering the people of the village. He had stayed in the village for a month so far, recuperating after the defeat of Naraku, and it shamed him to say that he had actually began to like some of the people.

"Please, please, please!" Rin squealed.

He sighed. If his ward was getting so unruly about it, it must be important. "Fine. Let's go." He smirked as Rin did an awkward little dance and darted off toward the forest.

-----

"Kagome-sama! Kagome-sama! Come quick!"

Rin barged into the hut where Kagome sat with Kaede, finishing off their lunch.

Seeing Rin out of breath from running, Kagome jumped up. "What's wrong, Rin-chan? Are you hurt?"

Rin shook her head. "Follow me!"

She didn't give Kagome any time for questions before she darted off. Behind her, Rin could hear Kagome's footfalls as she dashed after her.

"Rin-chan! Wait!"

Rin ran through the forest, making sure she kept on the path that led to the old well.

Her goal in sight, Rin stopped short and waited for an irritated and out of breath Kagome to reach her.

What seemed like fifty forevers to Rin, Kagome stopped beside her, panting for breath. "What is so important?" she asked, between deep breaths.

Rin said nothing but grabbed Kagome's hand, leading her into the clearing.

Kagome's eyes widened at what met her.

"Happy birthday, Kagome-sama!"

There, in the clearing, was the largest puppy Kagome had ever seen.

"I couldn't get you the kind of puppy you wanted, but I hope this will do!"

Cautiously Kagome approached Sesshoumaru, who lay in the clearing, fully transformed and tail wagging. He opened one enormous golden eye and tilted his nose toward his belly, silently demanding her attention.

Throwing all caution to the wind Kagome approached him and buried her hands into the fluffy white fur of the dog's chest. "Thank you, Rin-chan. This is the best gift I've ever received."

Rin puffed up her chest and smiled, before dashing over to Kagome and diving into Sesshoumaru's chest.
