They had lived centuries together by now, loved each other, supported each other, protected each other, knew each other… and yet he still found ways to sweep her off her feet.

The day they were to celebrate their anniversary, Kagome came home to find their apartment almost entirely covered with red roses. Every surface was covered with them, and Kagome grinned, shaking her head as she set down her keys and purse.

"Sesshomaru?" she called out, taking off her coat. "Where are you?"

Her mate and husband rounded the corner from their kitchen with humor and love gleaming in his golden eyes, "Welcome home, my lovely garden rose…"

Kagome laughed at the pet name. He'd always called her that, and each year, on their anniversary, he would get her a rose. Only, once they were mated and married, he began adding a rose every year, hence, the ludicrous amount of them around their home.

"You've outdone yourself this year, Sesshomaru," Kagome said as he took her around the waist.

He chuckled, tipping her chin up with a hooked forefinger, "And you say that every year." He kissed her gently, tenderly. Every time, Kagome melted against his lips, and he would hold her weight before she'd fall in a heap to the ground.

Of course, she knew all the evil little ways to do the same for Sesshomaru. She had the power to make him beg, make him moan passionately, make his toes curl, and she would happily do so later in the evening. But for now, she allowed the former demon lord to show off his mastery of the perfect kiss.

Kagome smiled at him, putting her hands on his chest as they parted, "We have to keep our traditions, I suppose."

"Just so," he agreed.

She hummed happily, and then tilted her head, "Well, I'm home early as requested. What's the surprise?"

Sesshomaru kissed her cheek, "The first part of your surprise is waiting for you on our bed, my love." He ushered her on, "Go, go. Meet me back here after you've opened it."

Kagome peered at him with mock suspicion, but she didn't say anything else, and skittered off to go see.

She gasped when she went inside, her hands moving over her heart.

The covers of their bed were pulled down, and a feast of goods from her favorite bakery was displayed over the foot of the bed. A breakfast tray was sat at the very center, ready to be loaded up with the treats.

She heard Sesshomaru approaching behind her, and she turned, her eyes warm, "You remembered…"

"Of course I did," he told her, embracing her from behind. "You wanted a low-key anniversary, and this was the only way I could think to do that: sweats, sweets, and The Great British Bake-Off."

Kagome laughed, turning in his arms, "I love you."

"This long?" he teased, smirking.

She nodded, matching his expression, "And at least a few days more."

"Then let's make them count."
