Mood Shift

Sesshomaru quietly slipped into the empty student council room. After taking a calming breath he set his bento box down. As the student council president it was his responsibility to be an example of an exemplary student with plenty of self control; to both the youkai student population and now also the humans one. On any other day such a task would be an easy thing to accomplish.

Except for today.

Voices were more shrill, students seemed to be fidgeting more, his neck constantly ached, the lectures were torturously longer than usual, even the classrooms were unreasonably warm, and worst of all the humans collective body odor was at an all time high.

Ever since the 'incident' of discovering that his soul mate was the miko, Kagome Higurashi, he'd been having to slip away to collect himself and regain his pristine facade of control.

After a quiet moment his breathing and pulse evened out, finally allowed himself to tuck into his meal.

'They should of packed more meat in our lunch'

Sesshomaru mentally groaned. Of course this miserable day wouldn't be complete without his beast stirring awake.

'This lunch is perfectly balanced, therefore acceptable.'

His beast snorted at that, making a very off color remark about rather having a certain miko in a bikini feeding him bloody strips of steak instead. Sesshomaru ignored him, continuing on with his now seemingly dry lunch.

He could do this. He just had to make it through his lunch break, and make it through the rest of today. Then make it through the rest of the week, then the rest of the month, and then til graduation. Perfectly doable. This was just a small hiccup in his life that he'd soon forge-DAMN MIKO! Sesshomaru bit his tongue as sharp anger crashed through him.

'Mate needs us!' his inner beast barked.

'The only thing she needs is a better hold of herself.'

Did she not realize that her wild mood swings was now affecting him through their bond? No of course not, because only youkai had soul-mates. Her being human must of made her immune to this all while allowing it to torture him instead.

Another wave of burning irritation washed over him. Snarling he shot up leaving the classroom, and a bubbling pile of acidic goo that had once been his lunch,
to stalk down the halls towards the source of all his ire. If he wanted to finish his senior year without a homicidal incident he was going to need to get her to calm down, and get over whatever it was that plagued overly emotional human women.

It wasn't hard to find her. The damned soul-mate mark on his neck made it impossible for him to not know where she was whenever they were both on campus. Before he knew it he was standing in the open door of her classroom glaring at the back of her head. He could feel her anger bubble more intensely now that he was closer to her. She was surrounded by her female human classmates with their lunches.

"Kagome, you can talk to us."

"I'm fine." She snipped.

"Are you sure? You've seem to be a bit...moody lately."

"I said I'm fine. Thank you very much."

Seeing what sort of simple friends she kept around, it wasn't hard to see that they would drive anyone with half a brain up the wall. Especially with their poorly veiled interrogation.

'Mate is being cornered!'
Sesshomaru mentally frowned at his beast's growl.

The group worriedly looked at each before turning back to her.

"Yeah but did you have to snap at Hojo like that?"

"I wouldn't have to if he'd take no for an answer."

"What about the snack-bar lady?"

"She was taking to long to count back my change"

"Kagome, you made the teacher cry today!"

"Because he was WRONG!" a slam of the desk was heard as she shouted.

The whole room was silent and more anger bloomed on Sesshomaru's neck causing his brow to twitch.

"Higurashi." He barked. He was slightly proud that she actually flinched. "A moment of your time, if you'd please." He commanded.

No one spoke as she nearly knocked over her chair and marched up to him. He clenched his jaw as tidal waves of anger washed over him. Wordlessly Sesshomaru turned and made his way back to the student council room.

This was not the Kagome he knew.
To him being curt with other male students was understandable, snapping at the elderly did seem off for her, but verbally abusing a someone to tears was not something he could ever see her doing. Thankfully the walk to the council room seemed to have calmed her a bit. Hopefully he could talk some sense into her, and then be done with this. It was only when she entered the room and quietly passed the inert acid pile that his inner beast began to pace again.

'Mate needs help,' it grumbled.

Sesshomaru had to hold back an eye roll. The only person here who needed help was him.

"Miko-" hot anger simmered from his mark.

"My name is Kagome. Ka-go-ME!" She jabbed his chest at every syllable with her finger. "It's not human, woman, wench, or MIKO!"

Sesshomaru claws bit into his palms. But he was not quick enough to retort when she began to berate him even more.

"You have a lot of nerve pulling what you did mister! You're not so high and mighty that you can just-"

'Mate needs comfort and reassurance' his beast mentally interrupted.

'Reassurance? She has an odd way of showing that she even needs it,' Sesshomaru thought to himself.

"-I'm not like one of your other hussies that you can just call whenever you're bored! And what was that all about anyways? First you're cold, then you're all over me, and then having the nerve to block me?!" her tirade continued on.

"Kagome," he smirked finally getting a word in, "are you by any chance perhaps, jealous?"

His beast groaned, 'Pup, you did not...'

Her stunned silence was proof enough that he was right.

Or so he thought.

"Jealous? JEALOUS?! REALLY?" She screeched, "Jealous of what you over-pompous poodle?" She was starting to shake and tears formed in her eyes.
"I didn't want this. I just wanted to be nice, and help with the student council! I didn't expect Lord Ass-Hat to man handle me and then bite me-"

'You bit her?!' Sesshomaru internally shouted at his beast, who had oddly enough now decided to stay quiet.

"- I was never expecting to have a soul-mate! I didn't realize I would be able to feel how angry you were all the time. If it weren't for my grades I'd skip school to avoid your constant sour moods!"

His mind nearly went blank. She felt everything he felt? That wasn't supposed to happen. She was fully human, this was only possible between youkai. That would mean their bond wasn't one sided then. She couldn't be part hanyou, could she? Sesshomaru inhaled deeply, smelling everything he could from Kagome. No, she was definitely human, a human who had a lot more to offer. Her scent had a new spicy edge to it, something he had only over heard older youkai joke about in private. It was causing him to begin to salivate. She smelt devine.

"-and who am I supposed to talk to about this? You weren't available. I tried looking it up online but there isn't anything about human and youkai soul mates or -"

His beast nudged him, 'Mate needs her Alpha.'
Now realizing his error, he had to agree.

"Are you even listening?" She stamped her foot, snapping his attention.

Without a thought he swooped down ignoring her yelp as he crowded her against a wall.

"I am now," he crooned.
"This Sesshomaru, apologizes," he snaked his arm around her shoulders. Her little gasp and sudden blush fit her all too well. The rage he felt from the bond was beginning to subside quickly.
He leaned down trailing his nose along her cheek, "I had not been attending to
you as I should have been. I overlooked your needs because you were human." He was filled with pride when his other hand grazing along her waist caused
her to shiver.

"Th-that doesn't excuse your behavior." She stammered.

Her scent was nearly overwhelming him now. How did he think it was possible to have avoided this for the rest of his senior year? If being near his mate made him feel like this, then what would it be like if they were closer?

He could barely keep his voice steady as he rumbled "Then allow me to apologize." crashing his lips upon hers. He was surprised that they both groaned from the kiss. However, he found it excusable as from the instant euphoria he felt irradiating from his mark, and her soft lips. A new alluring heat ran through his blood. His beast was howling, his fangs ached for her. He needed to stop before they were both to over-whelmed.

Jerking his face away he gasped for air. He couldn't help but feel satisfied seeing how flushed she was.
"Was that a satisfactory apology?"

Kagome had to catch her breath, "I-it's a start."

Wether it was the fuzzy tingles he felt from her, or from the lack of oxygen he couldn't hold back his chuckle. Maybe their soul mate bond wasn't such a bad thing after all.
