Prompt: Mingle

Trailing behind Kagome with an armload of KFC, Sesshomaru smirked, highly amused as he always was on Christmas Day. Kagome didn’t drink often, because when she did she became slightly...goofy. It takes no more than a glass or so of wine to get her drunk honestly. When she became drunk she was happier, babblier, and more talkative like most drunks. She stumbled over her words and mixed them up, something he found hilarious! And now was one of those times.

“Mingle bells, mingle bells, mingle all the way,” Kagome sang happily as she headed, weaving, towards the front door of their mansion. Stopping, she danced a little drunken jig then continued on. The two glasses of wine before heading out to pick up their standard feast of KFC had her in a great mood. It didn’t matter to her that she knew she was singing off-key or who might hear her, she was in a festive mood. However, she stopped and fumbled in her purse for her keys. “Hmm, I can’t find my keys,” she observed to Sesshomaru.

“Never fear, Kagome, I have mine,” an amused Sesshomaru assured, twinkling golden eyes locked on her.

“Oh, good! You’re always so with it,” she told him happily. Then starting to dance once more, she sang, loudly, “Mingle bell, mingle bell, mingle bell rock.”

Unable to help himself, starting to trail behind her again, Sesshomaru began to hum along with her. This was always so much fun and as much of a tradition as having KFC on Christmas was for Japan. And he adored it. They would have their feast then spend the day snuggling in front of the fire no matter the weather outside. While they could go to families’ houses rather than stay alone, they always chose to be together alone. It was their tradition and he adored it. By now, Kagome would no longer end up embarrassed by her behavior the next day, so all was good.

Chuckling internally as she pressed on to the next part of the song, messing it up as well, he continued humming along, fishing his keys out. Yes, they would have fun today like they always did.

Japan has a tradition of eating KFC on Christmas due to a marketing campaign many years ago.
