Chapter 5: Maelstrom
“You must let go.”
Kagome stubbornly shook her head. “I can’t. I won’t.”
She lurched violently, catching herself at the last second before she fell, and pretended she hadn’t seen the striped arms that had reached out toward her. Her skin glowed and burned. She couldn’t–wouldn’t–let him near.
“Please… I can’t hold it back any longer!” she begged, seeing the frustration and pain on his ethereal face.
Sesshoumaru snarled as she inched closer to the edge of the cliff. They had prepared for this: the day when her powers inevitably caused a supernova.
He was supposed to let her be swallowed up by the sea–her death a noble sacrifice.
But dogs were loyal, and he would never leave her side.
“Let go.”
